Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tayo Ojo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tayo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
My first job in the fitness industry was actually something that I was not actively seeking. I was on a journey of losing weight through boxing. 5 days a week, I came in and gave it my all in every class. One day, one of the boxing trainers approached me and asked if I would be interested in teaching classes at the gym on account of my amazing progress and performance. Of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tayo Ojo. I’m 22 and I am based in Columbia, Maryland. Professionally, I am actually a cybersecurity engineer. However one of my biggest passions and hobbies at the moment is fitness. I run an Instagram fitness page, @tayofromthegym, where I showcase my journey, give tips to those in the same boat as me, and promote living a healthy and active lifestyle! One of the most important things about my page is that I am living evidence that training and dieting works. I started off obese; 270 lbs and unhappy. In 10 months, I had gotten down to 200lbs through boxing. Now, I’m on my bodybuilding journey!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation is based on me being living proof that you can better your life through working out in some fashion. I went through the process that many people struggle with; losing weight and eating right. My page is all about the real life process of building a healthy lifestyle.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most helpful thing for succeeding in the fitness industry is being authentic, putting in the work, and being disciplined. There are no shortcuts for getting fit and healthy. I am here to spread that message and inspire others to join me on a lifechanging journey of fitness. This takes discipline, effort, and a lot of hard work, but it is more than possible.
