We recently connected with Tayo Lasaki and have shared our conversation below.
Tayo, appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
Personally I believe that taking a break is a necessity no matter how busy you get because if you don’t take it voluntarily and in good health, you may end up taking it involuntarily on a sick bed or worse.
I love vacations and I believe it helps my mental state and rejuvenates me. It’s important to find time to step away from ones business for a short break which doesn’t even necessarily have to be a vacation. When I come back from such breaks, it’s feels so good and makes it seem like I’m coming back refreshed and better.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Tayo Lasaki and most people know me as the female carpenter.
I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and fixing things around the house. About ten years ago, while I was searching for my next step in life, I found my calling in carpentry.
The beginning was quite a journey, but I never considered giving up. I was determined to succeed, so I kept pushing forward. Starting as a carpenter, I faced challenges, especially as a woman in the field, and I had to work hard to earn people’s trust and secure jobs.
Over time, I’ve developed more skills beyond woodworking. I believe in continuous learning and staying updated with new trends to remain competitive. I strive to stand out, no matter how small the achievement, and I’m incredibly proud of my work, which truly reflects my dedication.
My business “Tayasaki Designs” specializes in home improvement. I do interior decoration, woodwork, custom furniture, closets, kitchens, tv wall build-outs/media walls, painting, tv mounting, accent walls, furniture assembly, trim works, flooring, drywall installation and repairs, basement finishing, renovations and more.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think being a female, being consistent, constantly improving my customer service skills and being so good at what I do to the level where my clients keeps referring me are what helped me build my reputation within the market
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Yes I manufacture furniture items but I also render home improvement services so I had to have the skills to be able to provide the services. I don’t sell ready-made products so I didn’t need to find a vendor, what I needed to do was make sure I was skilled enough to render the services I was marketing. I manufacture all products I sell as they have to be custom-built to the taste and space of the client.
One lesson I have learnt along the way about manufacturing a product is that it’s okay not to be 100% perfect as we are humans but be close enough because that attention to details is what will sell you.
