We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylour Gonzales . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylour below.
Taylour, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were to start over, I would’ve put myself in a different position at the very beginning of my career. I was the new stylist who often felt nervous or scared to come out of my comfort zone. I would’ve taken more risk. I found myself playing it safe my first few years behind the chair.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Taylour. I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I own a salon suite in Chula Vista, Ca. I provide hair services for a lot of naturally curly ladies. My main goal is to give good service to my clients, and help them maintain healthy hair. I like to make sure my clients are as comfortable as possible. The thing I’m most proud about is my clients sharing how I have helped them achieve their hair goals, or that the products I encouraged them to use actually worked and benefited their hair. I also just love to know I helped someone out.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think it’s safe to say the pandemic made all small business pivot. We had to figure out how we were going to make it, how to make sure our businesses stayed afloat. I had to really take a step in a different direction and start teaching my clients and followers online how to take care of their hair at home, do drop offs for clients, it really pushed me to a new avenue in my life which is teaching. Now I am starting to do more education. I also came out with my stimulating oil during the pandemic. Which is selling well!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media on being social. People love feeling close to you, or like they know you. Showing my clients/ followers a different side of me really boosted my following and made people feel close to me. That not only boosted my clientele but also my sales when I released my hair oil.
