We recently connected with Taylor Woodford and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Taylor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I started midsizemidprice in late 2021 amidst the hustle and bustle of wedding planning. I was inspired to start this page after being discouraged with my experience shopping for wedding dresses & other outfits for wedding-related activities. I found the majority of stores (both online & in-person) catered to people sizes Small-Large, and opportunities for other sizes was very limited. When I found great options for stores with more inclusive sizes, I wanted to create a platform to share style ideas, fashion finds, and store recommendations with other mid-size women.
If I could go back and start again, I would have started this page much sooner. Thinking back to college, I remember having many conversations with friends, sorority sisters, and classmates about where to shop & where to find the best deals, as personal style has always been something very important to me! I thought about starting this page for years before taking the step and doing it, but I always though a content creator had to have a certain “look”. I wish I would have been more confident in my body & myself earlier on, which would have led to me starting this platform before 2021.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started midsizemidprice in 2021 as a platform for mid-size women to find styling ideas, outfit inspiration, and recommendations for inclusive stores that carry sizes to make all women feel beautiful! As a “mid-size” woman myself, I have always found that “standard-size” stores can be really limited in the sizing they carry, and many plus-size stores aren’t quite the right fit either. I love that more companies are starting to see the value in carrying sizes for ALL women, rather than sizes for a more selective singe range, and on this page I hope to spotlight those companies after trying them for myself! I also share styling tips and recommendations in hopes of helping women find trends that make them feel confident and beautiful in the body they have. Personal style is just that, personal, and I love taking trends and personalizing them to me to inspire others to be proud of their unique personal style (regardless of what is “in”).
I also want to normalize the idea that all bodies can be active/fit/in-shape. I am passionate about fitness because it makes me feel strong, supports my mental health, and I know it good for my body physically and will help me live a long and healthy life. I used to subscribe to the mentality that to be a runner you needed to have a “runner’s body” or to lift weights you had to have chiseled abs, but over the past 4 years as my love for fitness has grown I have learned that I can be both of those things at any size. This past year I ran two half marathons & am running full marathon this fall. I am so thankful I let go of thinking I needed to fit into a traditional model of what “in-shape” looks like to do those things, and because of it I am now more confident that I can achieve my fitness goals as a mid-size woman.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the traditional views of beauty & health before starting this platform. Growing up, I thought beauty meant looking like a runway model and health meant having little to no body fat. After graduating college and moving to Chicago, I started to develop a passion for fitness which supported me in my overall journey to self-confidence and body acceptance. I am so thankful for individuals like Ashley Graham and Katie Sturino who have shown the world that women, at all sizes, can be beautiful, inspirational, and achieve great physical feats like running a marathon!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of this platform so far has been connecting with women who have found inspiration from a video, outfit, or other post and shared on midsizemidprice. It may seem small, but someone DMing me a photo of them in a dress that they styled after being inspired to try something new from a post truly makes my day! My goal is to build a community that supports one another, boosts each other up, and shares ideas and tips about personal style, and seeing messages like that reminds me of the path we are on to building that.
