We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Winfield. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.
Taylor, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
My first time generating income from my creative work was in 2013 when I started making music. A Christian artist named Flame from St. Louis MO was working a an album which I sent instrumentals over for him to check out the sound I was working on. He loved a beat called “Flowers”. To this day it’s still one of my favorite beats that I’ve made. I respect Flame because he showed me that I can make a living from what I genuinely love to do. Not only connect with greatly talented people but also individuals that are on a mission and inspiring.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Taylor Winfield I am from St. Louis Mo and my producer name is Taycreations. I moved to Atlanta in 2015 to enroll in school for audio engineering. I got into this industry by connecting with other artist along with putting myself in the rooms of a&r’s and executives. I provide music production for companies and artist. I am an independent contractor. Being able to sound design is so powerful because it sets how the mood of the scene/shot is supposed to feel. What sets me apart from others is I am able to fully understand the vision someone is looking for and bringing it to life. I and so proud and thankful that God has given me the gift to create instrumentals from scratch by putting sound’s together. It is very therapeutic! As a music producer I don’t limit myself to only one genre or sound. I create any type of genre with an authentic feeling and giving the listener high quality sound.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way to support artists/creatives is to attend artists’ shows or exhibitions, you are helping to ensure that the creative community in your area will remain active. Social media is an important tool for artists to use to promote their body of work and reach out to new audiences. When you follow them online, you are helping them to increase their visibility and reach more people. Additionally, if you share their work with your own followers, make sure to credit them! Also word of mouth will always remain as one of the most effective ways to support artist!

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
It is crucial to know how to get paid from your music! At a young age I just wanted to be really great and creating music without thinking of how to make income from my work. Not knowing how lucrative this industry is. Everything almost need a sound or song to it. So knowing that you’re always needed is a major blessing! I am thankful to know information on how Bmi and songtrust works. The major blessing about registering your works is that sometimes you may forget to register songs online for your royalties but it’s not too late for your earring to catch up with previous quarters. Always have your business in order. It is amazing being extremely talented but why not get paid for your work!
