Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor Wellman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taylor, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Our company is called Financial Potion because we truly believe that video is the financial potion for businesses. In our opinion, video is the best way to communicate and educate an audience. People want to watch videos and people will retain the information given in a video more than if they just read the information or heard the information. Video can also come in many forms. It can be highly produced commercial or a simple Instagram reel. It can be script or it can be live. There are so many ways that video can help your bottom line.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started studying video when I was in high school. I had the opportunity to be a part of a national organization called “Fresh Films” and then was accepted as a part of the “Girls in the Director’s Chair” where we created a PSA sponsored by Stayfree. My junior and senior year of high school I attended a Career and Technology Center where I competed in the SkillsUSA national competition for Broadcast News and graduated with certifications in video production and non linear editing. I ended up getting a bachelors degree in digital video and even before graduating college I was working at a video marketing company in Phoenix as a project manager and video producer. I then worked at a studio in Scottsdale for a couple years and between the two experiences I saw how to and how not to run a business, treat clients and treat your team members. In July 2014, my now husband and I decided to start Financial Potion where customer service comes first and we give respect to all our team members. What we truly feels separates Financial Potion from other video production or video marketing companies is we help ensure videos don’t collect digital dust. From thought to distribution we will help our clients craft messages, produce their videos and then correctly share their videos on the right platforms the way the platforms want to see the content. There are a lot of rules when it comes to correct distribution of videos and the rules are always changing, we help our clients stay up to date and we regularly follow up with our clients to make sure they are using their investments.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Just like everyone in 2020, we had to pivot when COVID became a true reality. Instead of doing everything in person, we had to help our clients connect online. Quickly we purchased and learned how to use live streaming equipment so our clients could still look professional with HD cameras, on screen graphics and background music but their events were all remote. For clients who didn’t have a budget for high end live streaming we helped them learn how to set up their own studio space, use ZOOM and we filled our calendars up with live stream facilitation events. We were in such demand that we trained and hired someone to join the team. It was an area of our business that we never performed before that because of the climate, we had no other choice than to adapt and pivot for our sake and for our client’s continued success.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Our story is one you would find in a romance novel. We met in 2009 working at the same video marketing company in Phoenix. I was a project manager and he was an editor. We worked there for about two and a half years. Then when I got a job at a studio in Scottsdale I was able to recommend someone who I thought was a great editor and Eric got the job. After two years, we decided to quit and start our own business. That was July 2014. We started our business, then we started dating, then we moved in together and married April 2017. It’s the perfect partnership.
