We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Wegman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Taylor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew that when I accepted the position at the Ohio Statehouse it would be nothing short of exquisite. We had the pleasure of planning and executing Governor Mike DeWine’s Inaugural Gala and Swearing-In Ceremony in January 2023 and that weekend made me realize I wanted to make a name for myself in this industry. Being the first person inside the building, guiding my team to make an event run so smoothly and concluding the festivities made me learn that anything is possible with the right attitude and mindset. People call me crazy when I mention it was one of the best weekends of my life, but when you realize what you truly are capable of it opens up doors to so many opportunities you didn’t even know were possible.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey with the event industry began nearly three years ago. I started out on the communications side and quickly learned I wanted to do less work behind the scenes and be more hands on. Once I came to that realization, an opportunity arose at the Ohio Statehouse and little did I know, I found my niche. With my little experience in the industry, my boss took a leap of faith and trusted in me to build from the ground up and from that moment on, there was no looking back. In my two years here, I’ve had the pleasure overseeing events such as the Governor’s Inauguration, The Scout Guide Volume 7 Launch Party, Candlelight Concerts, Unity Prom, countless weddings and much more. To say I’m grateful is an understatement. When you tackle on upscale events in the city you were born and raised in, it makes you feel that you are truly making a name for yourself. With that, I can’t wait to continue to see what other connections I will make, the bonds I will form with future clients and the everlasting memories that I will cherish forever.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think at the end of the day seeing all your hard work and dedication poured into these events that others have also spent countless hours planning and executing – knowing it ran so smoothly is the most rewarding part of the job. Being able to go the extra mile knowing that it can make someone’s day easier and more efficient, that to me is rewarding. Creating and forming a bond with your clients is so important. When my clients look at me, I want them to know everything will be handled with grace and with the right mindset anything is possible.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Word of mouth is so important. I also think in today’s society posting on your social media platforms and producing high-quality content will help make a name for yourself. One of my favorite sayings is, “you have to look it to book it.” Stop the excuses and execute – clients don’t want to hear the word “no” and doing everything in your power to make sure your client is satisfied, and with the right mindset that will lead to a successfully executed event.
