We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Trumbo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
While success comes in so many forms, for me, I’ve learned to find success with those little milestones along the way.
For starters – taking a chance and betting on myself from the get-go was by far the hardest but most rewarding part of feeling successful. Leaning into what your gut is telling you (hint – it was “go for it”) and not allowing that inner voice to give you an excuse to do otherwise was a challenge but once I listened, I felt like little specs of success followed no matter how big or how small. Taking that initial leap of faith led me to starting my own talent agency in 2019, hiring 2 employees, growing our roster substantially while maintaining that hands on approach with our clients, and of course seeing the profits start to rise were all exciting meaures of success for me.
Aside from that little inner nudge, it takes some grit, a positive outlook, a love for the work, and of course some family time and self care to avoid that burnout :)
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! I’m Taylor – a Dallas, Texas native who made my way to Southern California in 2007. I attended California State Long Beach to pursue Dance and Communication Studies and upon graduation, landed at a dance agency for representation and as their intern to learn the business side of the industry. I worked there for 4 years then transitioned to another agency where I grew their commercial, theatrical and kids department. In 2019, I branched out to start my own agency – Evolve Artists Agency – where I can now call home! I got married in 2017 to my amazing husband, Nick, and I have a 3 year old daughter and 10 month old son :)
At Evolve Artists Agency, we pride ourselves on mainting a hands on approach. We are extremely communicative with our clients and really get to know everyone on a deeper level – actors truly aren’t just another number on the roster here. Loyalty also palys a big role in our approach to our business as I’ve had many actors signed with me for years. It’s pretty special! I especially love developing talent that may not see that spark in themselves from the start – when they get that first booking it is the BEST feeling for everyone.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Reputation is everything for any business so it’s something I take a lot of pride in maintaining with my clients, casting directors, production companies, acting coaches, other agents, etc. When you’re in a competitive field like entertainment, there’s always a bigger agency with celebrtiy clients or another agent who has received more awards so I’d like to think my reputation within the industry is what keeps my actors and models on my roster long term and what keeps new faces consistently submitting to Evolve.
Our mission at Evolve is to represent actors who are professional, honest, driven, and passionate about their craft. If I represent someone who doesn’t communicate well, fails to confirm for auditions or never updates their headshots, that tarnishes my reputation as an agency and casting won’t trust us to send high quality actors their way. I also have zero tolerance for dishonesty or disrespect because I know if an actor is treating me a certain way, that will translate to casting/production and inevitably trickle back down to the name “Evolve Artists Agency”.
Needless to say, we are transparent about our expectations and what we as agents can bring to the table. We are reliable, communicative, hungry, and diligent agents and love working with actors and models who are too!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for us is definitely word of mouth! While we do find that actors and models find us through instagram, the SAG / AFTRA website, or google – the BEST source is when people are simply talking about us! We are so lucky to have clients who trust and love working with us enough to provide free marketing every business loves to have.
