Taylor, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.

Considering we are a multi-generational family business, we have quite a few different ways we could answer this! Our business, Liberation Estate Services, is owned and operated by myself, my brother, and our mom! Deciding to open a business together was not the easiest decision to make due to the questions that all business owners must face, however, when we sat back and looked around at who would really be there through thick and thin, it was a very easy “Yes” – it just made the most sense. We also all have knowledge and skills that the others need for our business to be successful. Before deciding to go into business together, we sat down and had the difficult conversations that some people may shy away from. What happens if the business doesn’t go to plan? What happens when there is a disagreement regarding how to operate the business? How do we make sure that the family unit is always protected? If we wouldn’t have had those conversations, come to agreements and put boundaries in place, our business would’ve closed as quickly as it opened. Starting a business comes with hardships no matter who your business partners are, if any at all, and adding on the family is a blessing and a curse because those are the people who know you best and who you know best. None of the siblings in my immediate family have children, however, if a member of my family wanted to be involved in ours or their own, I would definitely encourage it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Liberation Estate Services is family owned and operated out of Maple Grove, MN. We offer home clean out, auction, high quality consignment, professional cleaning and real estate services! Our business can be of service to those who are downsizing, transitioning into assisted living facilities, taking over estates of those who have passed, or to those who are simply looking to declutter or consign their high quality items. What sets us apart in our industry is that we offer all of the services mentioned under one roof whereas most companies will only offer one or maybe two of the services we provide. Most companies who offer home clean out services do not provide customers the opportunity to make that cost back with the auction or high quality consignment options. The most common pieces of feedback we receive is how fair our pricing is for both our services offered as well as the pricing of items we hold on consignment and how clean and organized our warehouse is! We take pride in being able to be of service to those in our community as transitioning away from an estate, no matter what the reasoning for doing so is, can be extremely overwhelming and stressful to those who are taking on the task. We strive to make the transition away as smooth and as stress free as possible!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Being consistent! Whether it be in our pricing, our quality of work, the cleanliness of our warehouse or providing timely and detailed communication between the business and our customers – being consistent so that customers know what to expect is very important and has helped us build our reputation within our market.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

To piggy back off of being consistent, not being afraid of asking those customers that you have built relationships with to leave reviews and to spread the word of the work that is being done! For us, word of mouth has hands down been the most effective strategy for growing our customer base. Especially when the customer’s expectations are met, if not exceeded, because we are consistent in how we show up for our customers.
