Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor Sliwa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Back in 2017, I took the leap to become certified in yoga because I felt a profound disconnect in my mind, body, and spirit during my mental health journey. I recognized that my trauma was deeply embedded in my body and soul. Early on, I discovered how intensely I experienced emotions through my body. Introducing yoga into my life transformed my self-awareness and mindfulness, enhancing my relationships and overall sense of being.
During my first yoga training, I had a transformative experience. We were guided to focus on our breath, breathing deeply and consciously. That first full diaphragmatic breath was cathartic, as I felt the rise and fall of my chest, inhaling cool air through my nose and exhaling warm air through my mouth. In that moment, everything felt quiet. There was no anxiety causing overthinking, no depression dominating my thoughts, and no trauma replaying in my mind. I knew then that I wanted to share this profound experience with others.
After eight years of continuous mindfulness and awareness practice, I am ready to share my journey with you all. I created T.S. Photography to promote healing through feeling. We often live minute by minute, hour by hour, constantly driven by time. These transitions can feel overwhelming and uncontrollable. I understand those thoughts because I’ve had them too. Through my photography, I aim to reveal the tender light within each moment and guide you towards a more mindful and aware mindset. I want to show you that you are in control of your life in every way.
Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I created T.S. Photography, I knew I wanted more than just to capture amazing photos. I aimed to create a safe space for everyone—a doorway to mindfulness and a true understanding of being present in the moment. As a daily meditator and yoga instructor, mindfulness is deeply ingrained in my soul. Embracing vulnerability in the moment has expanded my awareness.
As a lifestyle documentary photographer passionate about mindfulness, I incorporate crystals, breath work, and techniques to stay present. I understand that not everyone feels comfortable in front of the camera, but you came to me for a reason. This experience will foster a lifelong love and appreciation for yourself.
I love taking pictures of newborns because they’re just beginning to experience life, and their movements and sounds are so pure. They are fresh to this amazing world, and the presence of a new human is truly profound. While the baby isn’t practicing mindfulness, they feel everything from their mother—your heartbeat, your emotions, your strength. Trust me, you’re doing amazing. I want to create a safe space for mothers and families to simply be during this new chapter. It’s an exciting time, and though it can feel overwhelming, you’ve been chosen for this journey. You get to be part of a new human’s life as they start to make their mark on the world.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Having freedom in all aspects is essential. I prioritize taking initiative and setting boundaries for my business that align with my well-being.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I aim to bring more awareness to individuals. I want you to know that you don’t have to navigate this world alone. While it can be daunting at times, remember that you have control over yourself and what you allow to affect you.
