We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Ricks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One risk that I have taken is definitely becoming a photographer. I have always been interested in it and have found myself in a magical world that I couldn’t see not being apart of my life. I went from being a cosmetologist who went from loving to not standing the smell of gel any longer. I wanted something better fitting for myself. So it is safe to say that I have found my way home.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am both a photographer and graphic designer. I got into photography a year before COVID hit, and haven’t looked back since. I specialize in almost everything, but specifically enjoy fashion, beauty and lifestyles shots. On the graphic design side, I am still in school, graduating in December, and am so excited to be done with school. I am hoping to enter the UX/UI field. I’m ready to use all my skills in both industries.
I’m really proud of how far I have come from all that I have been through. I love what I do, and I want people to see that just from previewing what I do.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My dream of living in New York is what drives me through my creative journey. I just want to create in a place I feel most accepted in. I feel a lot of creatives find a place they fit in, and that’s always on their mind to get there. Another goal would be to be a creative director. I love taking charge and creating whatever I want, and seeing how it comes out to play. I know there’s a lot more that comes into play when it comes to being one, but the process I love.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One thing I can think of is just the finished product. Seeing all your hard work of planning, brainstorming, spending money, finding resources, and much much more, come together at the end, there is nothing like it. I hope creatives out there all understand what I’m saying and can feel it as well.
