We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Peterson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.
Alright, Taylor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am very happy as a creative in the wedding industry. While it can be incredibly difficult to manage a small business, while raising a young family, it provides the flexibility to do so, at all. I am also able to maintain a sense of self-identity as I am continually evolving as a creative. I feel incredibly grateful and fortunate to be surrounded by family, friends, and a community of passionate creatives of the Seattle wedding industry that are incredibly supportive and uplifting. I owe a great deal of where I am today to those who have been there for me in my journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Taylor. Wife, Mom of four, sibling to three brothers, cousin to only God knows how many, friend to like, not that many- because I prefer coffee till cocktails from the comfort of my home, and if I could, I would never leave my house. I have been in the wedding industry since 2015 as an assistant wedding planner and coordinator with my Mom.
Honest Calligraphy is a tribute to my great uncle, Mel Sugue – my “Papa”
It’s a creative expression and extension of the gift of hand lettering and calligraphy taught to me, by him, at a young age.
With years of practice, came a day where a friend asked that I participate in a wedding styled shoot, by creating hand lettered paper goods. This shoot was a catalyst to jump starting my business and getting my foot into the Seattle wedding industry.
Today, it allows me to work from home as a business owner, to help support my family.
It is a means of paying my Papa tribute, maintaining my sense of self, connection to community, and serving others.
It has granted the opportunity to meet the most incredible people- generous and appreciative clients, brilliant vendors, new and dear friends, and a community that is inspiring, supportive, kind, and uplifting, all while allowing me to help provide for my family.
I am honored to have served the greater Seattle area and beyond with wedding and event signage and stationery since 2018.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative in the wedding industry, is knowing that I had a hand in helping creating, arguably, one of the best days of their lives. In doing so, I was able to pay forward the love that was given to my by my Papa.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey has an underlying drive to continue to push myself to improve, expand my boundaries, remain honest with myself, and create with love, as my Papa does.
