We recently connected with Taylor Olson and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
I would say my education and continuing education is my best investment. I am a firm believer that no one is ever done learning. To stay relevant and current in this industry you have to learn new tricks and trends. Working with other artists and learning something from them is something I value more than I can explain.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a bridal makeup artist specializing in natural soft glam. My passion is enhancing my brides natural beauty. I started in the industry by going to cosmetology school and then opening a full service salon in my home town in Montana. From there I went to makeup school in Dallas Texas. After that I moved to Fort Lauderdale Florida where I specialized in bridal makeup as well as being a full time esthetician doing facials and lash extensions. Over the years I have narrowed my craft to just offering wedding makeup as well as owning a full bridal company of makeup artists and hair stylists. I am extremely proud of how I have grown my business over the years. I specialize in bridal because I truly love being part of someones special day. Getting to see my brides love how they look and feel beautiful will never get old. I also value the relationships and friendships that I have created over the years with my brides.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I can honestly say I have had to pivot or mold my career twice. Moving from Montana to Florida was a eye opening experience. Business is done differently there. Building a clientele is different there, due to being a very saturated market. I had just lost my father who was a big part of who I was as a business owner. I had a moment of do I really want to be doing this, is there a different career out there for me. But I soon realized this is my passion its more than just. a job to me. When my husband and I moved to Colorado I Immediately opened my business here, where I did facials, lash extensions and makeup. When the pandemic happened I was forced to close my studio. Which is when I decided to only offer makeup services, and I honestly wouldn’t change it how things unfolded. Im very thankful for where my business has come.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth and referrals. Having been in Colorado for three years now I am starting to have brides that were bridesmaids in other weddings that I did the makeup for. Which is truly the biggest compliment. I would say vendor relationships and social media as well. Having vendor relationships is key. They are friendships and as cliche as it sounds I am a firm believer in community over competition. Everyone has a skill, everyone has a niche. Every client has a budget or a preference on style and there is plenty of work to go around.
