Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor Nick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taylor, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
In my experience, Corporate America often overlooks the diverse needs of holistic healing practitioners. Traditional coworking spaces lack the warmth and ambiance required for therapeutic work, while therapy clinics limit services to psychotherapy alone. Spas focus solely on relaxation, neglecting deeper healing practices. This oversight leaves practitioners like myself with few options—either paying high rent for unfurnished spaces, surrendering a significant portion of earnings in commissions, or resorting to providing services in personal homes, compromising professionalism and safety. This fragmented approach leads to isolation and hinders collaboration among healers. At The Healing Society, we address these shortcomings by providing a cohesive, professional environment for practitioners to thrive independently. With furnished offices, coworking lounges, and event spaces available by the hour, we offer accessibility and autonomy while fostering a supportive community of healers. Our mission is to provide a space where practitioners can share their unique gifts, collaborate, and collectively contribute to healing the world. Through our wellness events, we extend healing tools and techniques to the public, empowering individuals to reduce stress, heal their bodies, and achieve success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey into the holistic wellness industry began with a deep exploration of beauty—both external and internal. With a background in artistry and styling, I spent years working with celebrities and in the fashion industry, all while questioning the true essence of beauty.
Driven by a desire to uncover the deeper layers of beauty and healing, I delved into psycho-spiritual studies, becoming a certified Human Design Reader, Inner Voice Facilitator, Reiki Therapist, and more. This diverse background led me to establish The Healing Society, Nashville’s first wellness community workspace.
At The Healing Society, we provide a haven for practitioners to offer their unique services in a supportive, collaborative environment. From furnished offices to coworking lounges and event spaces, we offer accessibility and autonomy to healers while fostering a sense of community.
What sets us apart is our commitment to authenticity and creative expression. I’m deeply proud of creating a space that not only serves the wellness needs of our community but also reflects my own journey of self-discovery and growth. As a mother and wife, I understand the importance of balance and connection, and I strive to infuse these values into everything we do at The Healing Society.
Above all, I want potential clients and society members to know that my work is not just a profession—it’s a creative expression guided by a higher source. Each day, I listen to my inner guidance to ensure that we continue to bring love, beauty, and healing into the world in the most authentic way possible.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I’ve had to unlearn is the false belief that there are distinct categories of “business people” and “everyone else.” I was entrenched in an overworked salon environment that prioritized surface-level beauty over true inner transformation. Despite having a clear vision for a different kind of beauty business, doubts plagued me. I saw myself as a daydreaming “dumb blonde” – inadequate, unprepared, and unworthy of entrepreneurship. But a voice from within reminded me that the only difference between a “business person” and anyone else is the decision to be one. I realized that my creativity, resilience, and resourcefulness were more than enough to navigate the challenges ahead. So, I embraced my role as a visionary entrepreneur, trusting in my ability to learn, adapt, and create the business of my dreams.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Securing the initial capital for The Healing Society was a journey fueled by determination, creativity, and a DIY spirit. It all began with creating the website, a project that allowed me to visualize my dream and organize the various facets of the business. Working on it during breaks between salon appointments, I pieced together a business plan using a template from the SBA website. With each spare moment, I meticulously crafted the plan, incorporating financial projections and design elements that reflected the unique aesthetic of The Healing Society.
Knowing that visuals were key to conveying my vision, I pulled inspiration from Pinterest, envisioning the dark Victorian apothecary-inspired vibe of the space. Armed with a clear plan and a bold vision, I sought funding options. Research led me to a lending company specializing in supporting women and minorities, where I navigated the daunting process of gathering legal documents, financial statements, and income projections.
Despite moments of doubt, I persisted, ultimately securing a Small Business loan that covered 80% of my initial funding needs. The remaining funds were sourced from the equity of my home, a testament to my commitment to bringing The Healing Society to life. With a detailed budget and resourcefulness, I stretched every dollar to make my dream a reality, proving that with determination and creativity, anything is possible.
