We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taylor Mosley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started my business because I found that many business owners have amazing idea but lack the structure and organization to execute their ideas correctly.
I help businesses grow and become more structured. I work with small businesses remotely all over the US, with a large portion of my clientele being in Michigan and Texas. Aside from branding, I also do small business and non-profit event planning.
Taylor, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Before moving to Texas, in my community, I worked with the youth, primarily ages 13-21, mentoring and building confidence through the fashion industry. I created “Poetry in Motion Modeling and mentoring” in 2018 to give the youth a creative space to express themselves through fashion in partnership with the nonprofit Red Ink while serving as a board member. The group became a safe space for youth to come and make friends, talk about issues at home and in school, and ultimately learn to be comfortable in their own skin. Due to COVID restrictions and changes within the group, Poetry in Motion is no longer active but members still receive mentoring and coaching through Taylor A Brand Development.
In 2020, I published a book titled the Model Manual, which gives in-depth information on the fashion industry and what to expect and avoid for young aspiring models so they aren’t being taken advantage of. I was inspired to write the manual after everything I had witnessed and learned throughout the years working in the fashion industry in Detroit, Flint, and New York.
Now I primarily focus on the helping businesses become more structured and market themselves better to increase revenue.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helps me build my reputation as considering myself as a brand , even aside from my business. I am a walking brand so every time I step out the house I have to carry myself a certain way because when people believe in you as a person , the believe in the brand you promote!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I started out more as a graphic designer but I realized that wasn’t my passion although it does helps me in my business .
Sometimes it just takes exposure to multiple avenues to understand what you’re really passionate about.
