We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taylor Morrison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor , appreciate you joining us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
I got my start shoving my phone in the faces of the poor patrons of the West End Trading Company between 2016 and 2019. I had a piece I was particularly proud of, and I brought it to a bingo night to give out as a prize. This bingo night was ran by Gallery on First artist and dear friend April Hawkins. She invited me to come back and set up a table to sell what I’d been working on. This lead to me imploring into more events in the Downtown Sanford area such as Food Truck Fiesta and Sanford Block Party, which are ran by Ladies 327.
I have to give a major shout out to Donuts To Go. Not only is that where I made my first dollar selling my work. It is where I discovered that I can sell pieces in sets. We have been in cahoots for almost 5 years, and counting.

Taylor , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Digital Artist that operates in the Central Florida area with heavy family support. I am a fan of many different things in Pop Culture and they manifest themselves into the pieces that I make. I don’t often do commissions or work with clients, I am very early in my development as an artist and I do suffer from social anxiety. I am most proud of myself for staying devoted to continually elevating my skills while juggling 40 hours a week in the back of house of an unnamed corporate restaurant, producing new work, managing my live events, and handling deadlines for brewery shows. I am mind blown that I even have fans. Howdy y’all! Isn’t this wild?

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Do the little things. Creative work has so many losses. You can make a difference in your favorite creative with a little gesture. You’d be surprised how much one person sharing one of my pieces and tagging me would make my day.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want the purchase of my art to be at an accessible price for most. I am always at ends when it comes to raising prices.
