We recently connected with Taylor Morgan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I tell all of my students that are younger how lucky they are to be able to start so early. Overall acting is just easier to get into when you are younger. It does not really matter your training level or skill level, all that matters is that you want to work, and you will get booked. If you’re a youth actor and you’re not getting booked it’s time to take a look at your team and materials. Every youth actor should be a working actor. Once you get into your 20s or even your teens, it gets a little bit harder. More people in those age groups have the system and the support to be able to tackle that dream. Therefore, the competition is more stiff per role. If I could go back in time, I would’ve started acting at the age of five. With that being said, I am grateful for my journey and where I am in my career because it is my journey and it is beautiful. But absolutely I will always wish I had started acting earlier and I do believe I missed out on incredible opportunities for myself starting so late.

Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started acting in theater at a very young age. I believe the first time I auditioned I was around 12 or 13 years old and I was so bad that I was not cast that year instead, I was put on crew which was the biggest blessing and the most fun I have ever had. I truly believe every actor needs to work behind the scenes at some point in time in their career. The year following that I ended up getting cast I believe this was eighth grade or so and while I had an OK time I was bullied really badly eventually where I quit theater. I can definitely say growing up in Centerville, Texas, being a creative person was not welcomed, and you can still see that today in their system. People who are creatively or academically gifted are not as celebrated as those who are in rodeo or athletics. So fast-forward in high school I really focused on rodeo and my academics to fit in and get into college. In 2020, I was accepted into Texas A&M university where I decided to start acting again. I started off with commercials, and then I slowly grew into short films and student films and eventually from there I started working on feature films, TV series and then I found my way back into the theater. Fast forward five years, and I am now getting ready to graduate from Texas A&M as one of the first ever recipients of my bachelors in fine arts with a specialization in devised theater. I have a job at a wonderful academy called Aggieland Arts Academy as an acting instructor and I absolutely cherish what I do and I’m currently the lead of a new feature film that will be hitting the big screen come 2027. If middle school me could see my growth, I know she would be so proud. I strive to be the person I needed in eighth grade that was bullied out of theater every single day on set and every single day in the classroom. I truly hope that those who work with me, whether it be in the classroom or on set, feel loved, accepted, appreciated, and celebrated. It truly takes a community to make it as an actress, and I am so grateful for the community that I have around me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being on set and meeting other creatives and just being able to get to do what I love which is creating art is always such a thrill. It makes auditioning, which is the absolute worst totally worth it. I have met some of my closest friends through set and commercials and films, and I couldn’t be more grateful for them. Friendships and connection are everything for me in this industry.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I owe almost my entire career and any success that I’ve had not only to God and the Universe but to Wendy Alane Wright as well. I remember around the age of 15, I would be mowing the grass at the barn with my headphones in listening to her YouTube videos and taking notes in my binder. Flash forward and now I attend the classes of those who she recommends I read all of her books. I watch all of her YouTube videos. I cannot get enough of the content she puts out there. Wendy Alane Wright does not know me and she will most likely never read this so please know I’m not saying this because we are friends or because I am being paid to. Her resources are free (youtube videos, facebook group) and she truly changes the game for actors. I talk about her so highly because she has literally taught me everything I know about acting through her videos and I cannot send enough people her way or thank her enough. Her books are a MUST read.
