We recently connected with Taylor Mobley and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I always believe that we get ideas given to us when we are ready for them. It’s our choice whether or not to act upon them. I started my business in 2015, my junior year of college. At the time, I was engaged, living in a tiny apartment, and I just wanted to talk about the things I love on the internet. I sometimes wish I had started sooner only because Instagram and Pinterest were in their prime 1-2 years prior to when I started, and organic growth was huge. But that didn’t set me back completely – and I was still able to grow my platforms to a respectable size, and there are always new platforms being created, like TikTok, to jump on. I also recognize that I wouldn’t have been ready 1-2 years prior to my start. I decided to start my business at the exact right time for me.

Taylor, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Taylor Mobley. I am a content creator, podcast host and business strategist. I am an enneagram 3 (the achiever), so I am constantly moving, creating, and working to achieve. I am a content creator, business strategist, and podcast host. My passion lies in helping women: whether it’s helping mamas in everyday life or helping small business owners thrive. That is the reason I started blogging in the beginning, and while my content has shifted and evolved over the years – my “why” never has! Over the last 7 years, my blog has been recognized internationally, won multiple awards and influenced women all over the world. These days, I spend time creating blog posts that inspire and help, podcast episodes that encourage and motivate and teach business strategy to small, women-owned businesses that are making a difference in their communities.
Have you ever had to pivot?
COVID was a rough moment for my business. In the span of a month, I lost every contract I had with my blog – some that I’d been cultivating over the last 5+ years. It was detrimental. My monthly income was reduced to 1/4 of what it had been previously and it was very much looking like I was not going to be able to sustain my employee or my business.
It was at this point, I pivoted from blogging as my sole income to really pushing affiliate income, web ads and 1:1 coaching with small businesses. This was hugely important because not only did it keep the business afloat – but now that my contracts have resumed, my income has increased as a result as well.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source of clients is always going to be word of mouth. There is absolutely nothing like someone getting a trusted, non-biased review from someone they trust. I have the majority of my clients come to be based on friends, clients or family that have worked with me before. You just can’t buy organic marketing like that.
That said, outside of word of mouth referrals, Instagram is my second best source. Being active on social media, cultivating a community and a presence is crucial and being able to withstand the algorithm changes is key. Selling yourself on your platforms will always be the best first step in selling your products/services.
