We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The more we talk about good leadership the more we think good leadership practices will spread and so we’d love for you to tell us a story about the best boss you’ve had and what they were like or what they did that was so great?
During my time at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, I worked as a videographer and marketing assistant for the University Center, an experience that profoundly shaped my career. My boss at the time, someone I continue to hold in the highest regard, played a pivotal role in guiding me toward success. She saw potential in me early on and, upon my graduation, told me she always knew I would be a force to be reckoned with. Her belief in me and her leadership style left a lasting impression.
The way she led our team of student employees served as a blueprint for how I now run my own business. From her effective systems to her creative ideas, I observed and learned what made her approach so successful. There’s a saying, “Don’t reinvent the wheel,” and that’s exactly what I did. I took the systems that worked under her leadership and adapted them to fit my business model, putting my own spin on them. This strategy has been instrumental in my business’s success.
Even now, she remains a mentor and a constant source of support in my journey. Her guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, and I am incredibly grateful to have someone like her in my corner—not just as a mentor, but as a friend.

Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I was a sophomore in college, a colleague approached me at work with an unexpected request: to create a highlight video for her wedding. At the time, I never imagined running my own business was even possible. I accepted the project as a favor for a friend, not realizing it would be a turning point in my life. Experiencing a wedding from behind the camera gave me a fresh perspective, and when I shared that video on social media, everything changed. Messages began pouring in from others asking if I could film their weddings too. That single project reshaped my professional path.
I initially started my business as a wedding videographer, focusing exclusively on capturing those special moments. Then, I had the chance to film my first conference with Rise Up Experiences, and my vision for my business expanded. That event showed me I was capable of more than wedding videos—I could capture raw emotions and craft them into visual journeys that told a deeper story. Filming the conference allowed me to branch out into promotional content for businesses, creating videos for TV and online platforms.
As I continued refining my craft, I reflected on my college experience at UWW and realized I missed the marketing side of business. This led me to expand my services to include digital marketing. I’ve worked with both local and international companies, developing marketing strategies that elevate their business. This part of my business allows me to work from anywhere in the world, helping companies create lead funnels, automate processes, and streamline their operations, so they can focus on their growth.
Over time, I’ve realized how all these experiences—wedding videography, business content creation, and digital marketing—connect to make a significant impact. I’ve had the privilege of working with nonprofits to help them establish a strong presence as they launch their ventures. Whether through photo, video, or digital marketing, my goal is to weave these elements together into cohesive strategies that drive success.
What truly motivates me is making marketing easier for my clients. Whether they need guidance for their startup or full-service management of their marketing efforts, I see myself as part of their team, committed to helping them win. Watching my clients succeed is the most rewarding part of my work.
One of my proudest achievements is being recognized as a Future 15 recipient in my county, an honor awarded to young professionals under 40 who are making a difference in their communities. I’ve also completed my first documentary, a project that celebrates the resilience of an individual who faced incredible challenges, and I’m currently working on my second.
I want my clients and followers to know that I keep it real and authentic on social media. Entrepreneurship isn’t always easy—there are tough days—but it’s incredibly rewarding when you’re dedicated to the work. I’ve experienced the highs and lows of business firsthand, and my mission is to help others navigate their journeys and reach the next level. Together, we can create something extraordinary.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’ve built my reputation in the market through open communication with my clients and consistently following through on my commitments. One of the aspects my clients frequently praise is my quick turnaround time on projects—something I take great pride in. Despite the fast delivery, I never compromise on quality, ensuring every project exceeds expectations.
As I continue to take on new clients and deliver exceptional results, word-of-mouth referrals have become a cornerstone of Miller Highlights’ reputation. The trust and positive feedback from my clients speak volumes about the impact we’re making in the community.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I started college, I pursued a degree in broadcast journalism with dreams of becoming a radio broadcaster. I landed an internship at a local radio station, where I worked for three years—the longest any intern had stayed with them. During that time, I didn’t just work alongside on-air personalities; I also immersed myself in the station’s marketing and sales departments, gaining valuable experience behind the scenes.
As my final summer as an intern came to an end, I expressed my desire to join the station full-time after graduation. My goal was to secure a job there by December, and the manager assured me there would be an opportunity waiting. Even while back at school, I continued working for the station virtually, confident that my post-graduation plans were set. But as graduation approached and I reached out to finalize my role, I was blindsided—they told me there were no positions available.
The news was devastating. I had envisioned a clear path after college, only to realize I needed to start from scratch. Determined to move forward, I pivoted to a sales career in the transportation industry, leveraging my minor in sales. However, after a year in the corporate 9-to-5 world, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me.
That’s when I decided to take a leap of faith and focus entirely on building Miller Highlights into something greater. The journey hasn’t been without its challenges—there were plenty of bumps along the way—but every twist and turn taught me something valuable. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a single part of the path that brought me to where I am today.
