Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor “Sunny” Mason. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sunny thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew that I wanted to be an actress when I was 8 years old! I was sitting in front of the TV on the floor watching Charlie’s Angels Full Throttle for like the millionth time, and a feeling came over me. I loved how there were three badass women doing badass things in TV for fun. It sparked something in me and at that moment I had this INTENSE feeling of like euphoria or knowing or intuition (idk what to call it) that washed over me. I KNEW in that moment I wanted to be an actress and I was so excited about it. I don’t think I had ever felt anything that strong in my life. I ran to tell my mom that that’s what I wanted to do and I needed to get into acting classes and she was just like “well go find some classes.” I don’t think she took me that serious at the time, probably thought it was just a phase. Mind you, I am 8 years old I didn’t know the first place to look but with my determination I just knew I had to figure it out. So eventually, it dawned on me to check the very slow internet for acting classes in Atlanta and from there I found one and started taking classes. ❤️
Sunny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well even though I started acting when I was 8, it was kind of sporadic until I got to college. When I got to college I started taking pictures with like random friends and it kind of snowballed from there. I started doing more professional photo shoots and doing music videos which I loved! I’ve been in music videos featuring Lil Baby, Coca Vango, Quando Rondo, and more. I always say the industry picked me, I didn’t pick it because it happened on it’s on! I feel like that time really helped me break out my shell because before that I was just so shy! At some point though, I knew I had to go back to acting a pursue it as a career. Up until that point, like I said my efforts were sporadic. I was constantly stopping because of self doubt and fear. But January 2021 came around and I said, I’m going to take this serious and I am going to stick with it no matter what and that’s what I did. Everything has been flowing ever since. Yes, I still have doubt and fear but God has showed me countless times during this process that he is here with me and I am doing what I am suppose to be doing.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect is just seeing God work and him making his presence known through the miracles he provides throughout my journey. I love when something amazing happens in my career that I know only God could have done. I love seeing him show up it’s truly my favorite part. I also love to see the looks of awe and admiration of people when I act. To know that I made someone feel something makes me so happy and feel good.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
There is a shit ton of rejection! There is alot of uncertainty and doubt. You have to be very BRAVE and persistent to do this. People think it’s so easy, like you audition for 2 things and one of them your suppose to book. Or if you’ve been in the game for a year why aren’t you famous or have a speaking role on TV yet. That’s not how it works! It takes a lot of time and dedication and God’s timing for things to work out. And NO, I cannot just call Tyler Perry and get a job! A lot of people have so many misunderstandings and it hurts!
