Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor Luna . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Taylor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I recently quit my full time job to pursue art fully! I remember waking up realizing that I’m just not happy anymore, don’t get me wrong my job was cool I got to work around awesome people all the time and got paid pretty well but I wasn’t happy. One day I finally had enough and needed a change in pace. I decided I would contact a local artist and ask to be an assistant working along side him to create wonderful art. Honestly best move I ever made! Taking that risk was scary as hell yea but now everyday is a new breath into life. When you come to realize that life isn’t worth living unless your happy your perspective changes on the situation your put in. A lot of situations in life can be scary but using that unknown to your advantage can be life saving. I wasn’t happy at all but taking that one risk changed the way I view myself and the way I want to live my life now!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started to create when I was super young 5-6 .From there on it was my passionate dance with art that gave me life and a goal to pursue within myself. My art has changed significantly from that point until now, even within the last couple months since I been a full time artist. I create psychedelic pop art paintings. I use screen printing as a technique to produce most of my art now. As an artist I feel as if what sets me apart is the the willingness to try new mediums. I see most artist just sticking to painting or using programs to create art, but I feel like stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new mediums is what helps artist grow. Being able to work in multiple mediums might be hard but you get a new understanding of your subject you might not have thought it before….then BOOM inspiration! Taking those risks lead me into creating some of the best work I’ve made so far! I would say I’m most proud of the fact I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone lately, It’s hard to do man! I’m happy that I’m pushing to try and meet more people or the fact of pushing my capabilities as an artist to edge so I always get that constant growth. I really like that question because you forget to let yourself know that, being artist or even just as a human being we forget to tell ourselves on a daily basis we are doing a good job. It’s important! I look as to myself not as a brand but a life style Of being, Just living.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yessssss! Inspiration is the all time key to an artist! I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries on other artist/ professors on your tube. Seeing their insight on life and what they feel is “the best art” is amazing. You start ti have this understanding that everyone really is subjective you have to find that balance between the what your interpretation of good or bad art is. My opinion on what good art is, is does it start a convo between 2 people ? What is the artist trying to say within the peice(s) ? Sometimes good art can also just exist without meaning, you just have to find what you as an artist is trying to push or bring to the table in your life time. Watching these videos can really questions and push forward your art and ideas in ways you could never imagine. It’s important to watch what the greats did and see what mistakes they made so you can improve on them yourself. Growth constantly is the key!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing I can say is being able to be me. Everyday I wake up and i get to be who I am. People now are so use to putting on a front at a 9-5 job they forget to drop that front when they get home. That takes away from life is such a toxic way. It’s so surprising that in a time where everyone is so accepting of each other that on the flip side we still have people scared to be who they truly are. I noticed that a lot when I was working at my last job I kept putting on a front but for what ? Why am I so scared to be who I am ? Being a creative allows me to be so aware of who I am that I’m able to always be myself without even trying anymore. Being who I am in my life time is what’s important that’s where the happiness radiates from. Something I’m truly and honestly grateful for!
