We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Liddell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
When Passions Align with Purpose – Serving the Underserved
P2 & You is a gentle skincare brand that was created for infants and small children who have eczema-prone, sensitive, or dry skin. We primarily cater to new mothers and women with small children. It is our opinion that the enhancement of the health of infants and children today should be a critical aim for public health in the United States as the well-being of the coming generations have the potential to shape and/or influence future public health concerns for families, communities, and healthcare systems.
New, young mothers and their children are often overlooked but in fact are an underserved and vulnerable population. To be clear, an undeserved population can be defined as groups with limited or no access to resources, encounter barriers in their attempt to access resources or simply not getting enough help, products, or services. This can range from healthcare, mental wellness resources or experiencing hardships such as the inability to receive specialized care, make doctor appointments or afford medications or products.
Specifically, we are skin-health and mental-health oriented in our goals. In addition to providing safe and effective products, P2 & You is dedicated to providing our customers with comprehensive skin health education to bridge the gap that exists between this population and healthcare literacy, ongoing support during product use, and mental health resources to encourage complete health and healing. This approach is necessary because although eczema and other dry, sensitive skin conditions primarily manifest on the skin, its effects have the potential to interfere with other parts of life as well.
According to the National Eczema Association, research is suggestive of children with eczema, specifically atopic dermatitis, being more susceptible to depression, anxiety, bullying, and social isolation due to negative experiences involving bullying and/or activity restrictions, which can lead to social exclusion. For this reason, we recently launched our non-profit organization, The P2 & Youth Foundation as we understand that we must be more than just a skincare line and it absolutely has to be about more than just business transactions.
It is essential to maintain a supportive and understanding environment around children with eczema to ensure that they receive the appropriate care and do not experience any unfavorable circumstances. It is vital to cater to their emotional needs and not limit them solely based on their medical condition.
As a mom of two young children and a current Ph.D. student, my passions for motherhood and biomedical sciences helped establish the creation and mission of P2 & You. What’s more is this mission directly links to my aspiration of becoming a physician who serves underserved communities. P2 & You is what happens when passions align with purpose.
The impact P2 & You has had on people’s lives has been significant, fueling our motivation to keep moving forward. The positive changes we’ve brought about and the difference we’ve made have reminded us that there is a real need for what we do. We are grateful for the appreciation we have received and will continue to strive to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For as long as I can remember, I have always been eager to solve problems. I graduated in 2015 with a bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences/Biology, in 2022 with two Masters degrees – one is Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a concentration in Human Performance and the second is a Masters of Business Administration with focus on Health Administration – and am currently pursuing a Ph. D. in Health Sciences. In addition to this, I have earned a certificate in Natural Health Consulting and I expect to apply to medical school in the near future.
P2 & You was founded out of a personal experience I had as a first time mother. My son developed eczema at 6 weeks old and instead of using steroidal creams and other prescriptions, I believed that I could solve his skin problem with careful research and trial and error. In doing so, I successfully developed what has continued to be our best selling item, ‘Goodbye 2 Dry’ Dry Skin Relief. From there, my business has grown to include other necessary products for infants and small children with sensitive skin such as soap, daily moisturizer and hair care for sensitive scalps.
In the growing market of skincare, we are set apart by our commitment to the mental health of children with chronic skin diseases. This is often one aspect of skincare that is overlooked however, conditions like eczema or psoriasis is more than skin deep. Our non-profit organization “The P2 & Youth Foundation” actively raises money all year long to donate for families of children with chronic and severe skin conditions to attend Camp Discovery free of charge! Camp Discovery is a week-long program organized by the American Academy of Dermatology Association where the children engage in community-building activities that leave them feeling revived, empowered, confident and with a sense that they belong.
P2 & You takes pride in successfully addressing complex skin issues that have confounded both patients and physicians. Our customers often testify to our effectiveness, noting that their skin problems had previously proven intractable despite various remedies. They find remarkable relief after using our products, a testament to our commitment to delivering solutions that truly work. It is something that we treasure as a brand and hope to continue providing for our valued customers.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My journey to medicine has been untraditional and quite unorthodox at most times. To put this into perspective, I am currently studying for my fourth MCAT exam and my fourth medical school application. If a person is lucky, they only have to go through these steps once. That said, it has been plenty of times where I’ve had to shift my perspective, focus and plan to ultimately achieve my goals.
This shift gave me a clearer understanding of my purpose in healthcare and the kind of physician I am meant to be. While my grandmother’s death from breast cancer was a significant moment in my life, I have come to realize that it only sparked my initial interest in medicine. As I have matured, I have become more aware of how I process events and understand that my curiosity about medicine goes beyond this one experience. I am motivated by a genuine desire to help others and make a positive impact in the world and that’s what keeps me going.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Starting my business was a challenging journey, as we didn’t have much capital to invest. I shared my idea with my husband, who helped me initially by providing funds to purchase ingredients. As I made sales, I reinvested the earnings to purchase more resources. However, whenever I needed extra assistance, my husband was always there to cover the gap. It was a true testament of our commitment and dedication towards building something from scratch.
