We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Kunkel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In October 2022 while planning all of my wedding details I stumbled upon floral preservation. I was searching for a way to preserve the beautiful flowers I had just ordered through my florist. I thought it was such a unique way to keep your wedding flowers. It’s a timeless and sentimental piece that you can always look at without them wilting away. They look just as beautiful as the first day as they do preserved. You spend so much money to make your day so beautiful, why not be able to keep it timeless. Once I booked my floral preservation after seeing the magic she did for everyone else’s, I knew I wanted to be able to do that for others.
Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey Ya’ll, I’m Taylor Kunkel. I’m a West Texas girl trying to make a small mark in people’s lives. I started a floral preservation biz about a year ago. After being able to preserve something so near and dear to my heart made me realize I want to bring that happiness to others. I offer several different types of preservations. My most popular is floral, but you can preserve any item you’d like – for instance memorial items like hospital bands for your baby, funeral items, anything you want. We offer a variety of shapes and designs. The sky is not the limit here. You see it on Pinterest, let’s talk about what we can do! I hope to bring happiness to each and every piece. I understand the importance of keeping memories alive and how sentimental each one is. That is one of my favorite parts of my small biz is being able to personalize each piece. It brings so much joy to me knowing people trust me to preserve their precious items.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I have made an instagram business account to try and connect to all people. You can go give it a follow @kunkels_preservations!! We enjoy posting reels, videos and progress pictures of all of our services. Occasionally we like to do small giveaways and money off our services while in return tagging some new friends to our page. I think it’s a great way to promote our biz and reach out to new people. We always encourage people to follow our work and share to their friends!
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Funding my small biz hasn’t been easy, but it sure has been worth it. My biz has been strictly all out of pocket to start up. Having to gather all the molds, resin, mixing parts and pieces takes some time. I decided to start up this biz on my own due to the love I had from my own piece. I started doing it at first as a fun experimental thing and I have been growing it ever since. It’s something I really enjoy doing not only for others satisfaction and happiness but for my own as well.
