We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Knight recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
In college, your advisors always tell you to apply for internships so you can learn about your career field. I applied to over 100 internships in 2016 and received countless rejection emails. No news organization was willing to give me a chance to step inside their studio. Many people would have taken the rejections as a sign to change your career path but I didn’t let that discourage me. In 2016, I founded TK On Demand, my own media platform where I could create news content in Tallahassee,FL.
I attended events on campus with my camera and microphone for the next year. I filmed all the events from start to finish, then let people know if they missed the event they can catch it on my Youtube channel. I wanted to create an “On Demand” feeling like you can watch these events on my channel at your own leisure and demand. I started getting requests from different organizations on campus, which created great traffic on my Youtube channel. I would film about 2-3 times a week without pay. I was shooting all this content for free, but I knew it would pay off at the end when I had something to my name to showcase. Once I collected enough content, I started to submit my reels to news stations in the area for sophomore year internships.
In 2017 I finally received my first internship with Freedom 93.3 Radio. They noticed my determination with creating the content and making a way for myself in media. After that the ball just started rolling, where I continued to use TK On Demand as a platform to always support my self and showcase my work. Although my career as progressed since 2016, I still depend on my platform because I still have more rooms I want to go into and TK On Demand is going to help me do that.

Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always knew I wanted to be in the entertainment industry from a young age. I started to get involved in broadcast journalism in middle school and I continued to build on my skills from there. The older I became the more I realized how diverse the entertainment news field is and had to figure out what exactly do I see for myself.
The beauty behind TK On Demand is that it allows me to showcase different versions of myself in the media industry. My followers may have noticed I transitioned from hard news coverage to lifestyle content to entertainment news and pop culture.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
There are so many resources I wish I knew about when I just got started in media. The internships, summer fellowships, conferences and summits. Those resources have provided people amazing opportunities in their career that pushes them ahead of the game. Also I wish I put more into social media when it wasn’t as popular as it is now. I truly believe if i dedicated as much time as I do to social media now, things would be very different for me.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As of now, my goal is to grow TK On Demand to something bigger than I even imagined. My platform has helped me get many opportunities to grow as a journalist. My ultimate goal is to become a full-time on air talent in entertainment news whether it’s broadcast or digital. Everyday I’m getting closer to my purpose and grateful I created TK On Demand to help me do that.
