We recently connected with Taylor Kincebach and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
To be an entrepreneur is to be a risk taker. You take risks on yourself… your discipline, your consistency, your resilience through the hardship of entrepreneurship. You take risks financially… investing in equipment, coaches or inventory. You take risks with your inner-circle… you need more time with your business, you need to be supported in new ways, you need to balance working and also being a crucial piece of your family and friend’s lives. You take risks with your time and energy… you may miss events, you might be working around the clock, your brain may not shut off.
Why do we do that? Why put ourselves in a place that risks are required? Because we are hungry for more. We hold a high level of hope for the growth of our lives. And we have a mission that drives us.
There are, however, different levels of risk. I started my business as a side dish to my 9-5 job in January of 2020. I was coaching women on goal setting and being resilient through online group coaching sessions that lasted 9 weeks. While I had taken a risk because I launched something completely new for my audience, but also completely new for myself from a back-end/logistics/operational perspective too… I still had my 9-5 salary to fall back on should this risk totally flop.
I am proud to say it didn’t, almost 3 years later and through the pandemic, I took a risk to continue to show up for women and their goals during some of the hardest years. I was working around the clock. I would get up and be in bonus-mom role, I would then enter my 9-5 Executive Director role, then back to bonus-mom and wife role, then entrepreneur role and on most days find the time for my wellness/fitness role. Being this busy and this scheduled was risky for burnout.
And that is why I find ways in the day to day to organize the overwhelm. No matter your story. Your background. Your day-to-day life. Life can be messy and overwhelming, my goal for my clients (shoot, and myself) is to help organize that overwhelm through creating habits, routines, schedules and goal strategies with action plans.
The reality is we don’t take risks in the overwhelmed state because paralysis sets in and we question where to even begin. So we stay in the vicious circle of thinking life is “just this way.” Life doesn’t require stress. Will it happen? Absolutely. But, we have to own our power in the stress and have a tool box of ways to combat it or deal with it in healthy ways.
We also have big, scary and sometimes even audacious level risks. A year ago in 2021 (almost to the day), I quit my big, bad corporate job and took the leap of faith that I would make my full-time entrepreneurship work. This is a risk that many day dream about, but feels so out of reach. The questions start to swirl of, “what if I fail” or “what if I don’t make enough money to pay my bills.” The rabbit hole of excuses NOT to do it is an easy place to live. I get it, I was there for so long. I will refer you back to organizing the overwhelm with getting a solid plan in place of what tasks you will do daily, weekly and monthly. Also, recommend coming up with your minimum viable income number so you know exactly the minimum you need to make at first to make it work for you and your lifestyle. Bonus key word: sacrifices. You will have to make some.
The common saying of, “no risk, no reward” is a fascinating one that I can only scream now being on the other side of the big, scary risk. Had I never taken this risk, I know that faithful day where I am at the end of my life… I would have regretted it. It would have haunted me. It would have made me question every career choice going forward or “what could have been” if I had just jumped. Now I know that it isn’t always linear and pretty— but being on this journey, fulfilling my personal and company’s mission of setting the standard that women can reinvent what is possible for them at any size or age… is beyond worth the risk. Worth the roller coaster of emotions, worth the questioning if I am doing enough or doing it right, worth all the sleepless nights when I was juggling all the hats with a 9-5 and entrepreneurship. Worth the risk.
Whether the risk is small, big or life-changing… I have found it is important to be equal parts committed, resilient and give yourself grace. It will be filled with incredible moments, your biggest hurdles and your unique definition of success. You may have to learn how to stand back up over and over. You may have to grow in your positive self-talk to give daily pep talks through the self-doubt. You may even have to take a break and come back stronger. Knowing your mission and being rooted in why this risk is crucial to your life and your impact on the world is the secret sauce to keeping your will-power and vital focus high. Now, go get risky!!

Taylor, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Taylor, creator of Team Quit Quitting™ and the Taylor Made Tasty Method™. I have helped hundreds of serial quitters forgive their past, own their story, automate systems in their everyday lives to create life-lasting habits and finally Quit Quitting™ on their goals through tactile and actionable tools to fit their individual lives. I am here to force you to hold up a mirror to your potential and GO GET THERE.
Having applied the Quit Quitting™ mentality in my pursuit of impacting women to stop starting over on their goal-setting journey, passions, talents and visions– I started speaking and coaching through creating Taylor Made Tasty Inc. As a CEO & a Goal Setting Mindset Coach, I am recognized for my ability to lessen mental warfare and create relentless personal transformation for women on an intentional journey to live their favorite life.
I called myself a serial quitter for years, no matter what I did and even things I was good at… I would quit. Piano, volleyball, basketball, swimming, water polo and most predominant in my life– my wellness journey. I committed to a challenge called the “52 hike challenge” and it is just as it sounds— 52 hikes in a calendar year. The first year, I hit 6. The second year I hit 36. The third year, I asked myself how it would feel at the end of the year if I didn’t quit. I did it. All 52. And so the retire serial quitter was born, I was become obsessed with setting goals and crushing them. And I want that for every single person.
I am most proud of the impact. Whether it is a simple follow on social media to an intimate one-on-one client, the feedback of how much my coaching and content has impacted their lives is why I do what I do and why I feel proud doing it. I am currently training for a marathon as a plus-size women and seeing women start running simply because I am sharing my journey and they see someone that looks like them– so they want to try it… I LOVE THAT!
I offer a variety of services from my monthly goal accountability membership, group coaching and my one-on-one coaching to take women from retired serial quitter to goal-crushing badasses.
I live in Hill Country, Texas with my Husband, Bonus Daughter and Rescue Doggie– Montana. When we are not hiking, kayaking, camping, biking, floating the river or getting dirty on some sort of adventure… we can most likely be found catching live music or binging a new show cuddled up on the couch.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Showing by doing. In my years as a coach, I have figured out a-lot of what people want is to not feel alone. Not feel that they are the only one dealing with a certain issue or the only one questioning themselves or their decisions or where to start. Being vulnerable and showing by doing is how I have earned my reputation in the market. I share everything from my struggles to my wins. Even as a successful business owner, I will cry on IG and share the vulnerable moments. Showing by doing is how you are relatable, real and raw— people want to do business with people they can relate to and being your authentic self (YES, ALL THE MESS TOO) is imperative to that.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
A book that I read recently that has stayed with me almost daily because the message is so strong is, “The Crossroads of Should and Must: Find and Follow Your Passion” from author Elle Luna. The reason I found this so impactful was the idea of your “must,” being your calling. What you must do in life. What you must create. What you must share. Who you must inspire. What you must change the world by doing. It’s an artful, quick read that packs a punch of reflection on what you “should” do vs. what you “must” do. And in a very simple form, I take this formula into my day-to-day tasks because there is so many things we should be doing for our business, but what is the MUST of your daily tasks that will move the needle. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
