We recently connected with Taylor Kiley and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I’m a full time anesthetist here in Savannah, GA, I love my job but it certainly comes with its fair share of stress taking care of patients when they are their most vulnerable. What helps that alleviate that stress are my family, friends, and coworkers, To put it in perspective, my coworkers are not just my friends, they’re a second family for me. We’re all close and we have a penchant for reality tv, especially The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, I started hosting “Bachelor Mondays” and I would make a charcuterie board each week. We would all gather at my house and would laugh over charcuterie and of course, wine. I’ll be honest, starting out, these boards weren’t always pretty! There was definitely a learning curve and quite the glow up with each one. After years of hosting Bachelor Mondays and with tremendous encouragement from my friends and family, I decided to form Boards by Tay and start selling my charcuterie boards!
Now, this business has turned into more than I could ever imagine–it’s not only a creative outlet and stress relief for me, but it’s an opportunity to create something wonderful for others to gather around, hopefully making wonderful memories in the process!
Taylor , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
*I answered some of this in the previous question but I’ll go into more details here*
As I said I’ve been making boards for all occasions (but it all started with The Bachelor) for about 3-4 years now. For so long, people told me how lovely the boards were and that I should sell them, but I just laughed and thanked them for their sweet words. At the start of this year, I finally decided to take the leap and see if there was something here–a true market for charcuterie in Savannah. I told myself it was okay whatever the outcome was–I was doing this as a side hustle in addition to my full time job. What I intended to be a side hustle or hobby has fully blossomed into a small business and I could not feel more blessed. I love making charcuterie boards for others–no matter what the occasion. It’s allowed me to feel like I’m a small part in so many wonderful memories people have created whether it be weddings, baby showers, bachelorette parties, or simply catching up with family and friends. That is so special to me and I cherish each board and customer that places an order with Boards by Tay. I always hope to create a board that is not only beautiful and delicious, but unique and personal.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Surprisingly I never knew how many people must Google, “charcuterie boards Savannah” because that has been such a huge source of new clients! Many people who may not be from the area are looking for a local company to deliver charcuterie boards to friends and family for an occasion and they have found my page on their search! Never ever doubt the power of a good Google review!! Thank you to all who have written thoughtful reviews and who have enjoyed their Boards by Tay,
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
While I am a relatively new business, I pride myself on good customer service. Even though I have a detailed order form on my website, I always like to reach out and confirm all details with each customer such as any allergies, requests, and delivery or pickup order and time, I do my best to accommodate any and all requests each person might have as well, I always for deliveries send a picture of the board and delivery confirmation to the customer and number I have on file, just to follow through with every step of the process. I want this process to be as easy as possible and want each and every customer to be satisfied with their Boards by Tay order!
