We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Jarvis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Man, this is such a unique and deep question I’ve never been asked before! My parents were married at seventeen and nineteen and had me when they turned nineteen and twenty-one. While I believe parenting looks/is different for everyone, I think parent(s) go by what they know from experience but also figure it out as they go. I don’t think a perfect method exists because life is unpredictable,,,and that’s the beauty of it. The biggest thing my parents “did right” is/was love me exactly for who I am. We didn’t have a lot of money coming from a tiny town in Georgia, but they did everything they could (and more) to support and equip me to become the person I am today. Not once did or have they ever turned down or discouraged me from being an Artist. Photography and Music are my two biggest passions and my parents were the ones that somehow came up with the money to get me piano lessons, surprised me with my first Nikon camera, and the list goes on. I remember my Dad trading his truck he loved just so I could get my teenage “dream car”…a Volkswagen Beetle. Did I always get what I wanted as a kid? Heck no…but did they encourage me, support my decisions, and accept me wanting to live “the Artist life”? Absolutely. Not once did they doubt or tell me to choose another path…and I’m so incredibly thankful for that. The impact they have/had on me is tremendous. I think it’s every individuals dream to have a parent or parents that truly love unconditionally. I can confidently say I am where I am today because my parents encouraged me to become who I was meant/made to be. Yes, there were boundaries…but they gave me plenty of space to grow and evolve into an Artist. I’ll never take that for granted.

Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, here goes nothing! Hi, I’m Taylor Jarvis – I’m a female Artist from Georgia, now based in Charleston, South Carolina. I received a BA in Humanities & Fine Arts at Charleston Southern University in 2013.
My parents surprised me with my very first Nikon when I was in high-school (2006). I starting taking pictures of mainly my friends, objects, and landscapes because I was living in a very small town at the time (when I say very small, this town had a couple of fast-food joints and a $2 movie theater that showed two movies a week kind of small town)! Photography became another outlet for me to be creative. I’m self-taught and officially launched ‘Pale Girl Photography’ fall of 2016.
I love conceptual themes mixed with minimalistic and editorial nature. I love hearing people’s stories and what’s going on in their lives…and that kind of helps me with the vision of each shoot: how I see them as individuals…beautiful.
I’ve been published/featured in a variety of local, international, and creative publications…but the most I’m proud of is receiving ‘Best Of’ and ‘Pic of the Day’ from Vogue Italia in 2019. I’ve also worked with a variety of clients, brands, companies, and designers including New York Fashion Week.
I simply want to constantly create beautiful things. I want to be known for stepping past boundaries/the ordinary. I want viewers to feel something when they see my photos. I love traveling and want to do more for shoots…so if you’re not on the east-coast I’ll gladly come to wherever you are!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to meet so many incredible people. When it comes to photography, I’m constantly reminded of how big the world really is and how beautiful life is. I love meeting clients, hearing how they found me, and why they want to work with me. I also love seeing or hearing final responses from clients when they see the final gallery…it’s as if they’re seeing themselves for the first time or in a different light and it makes me happy.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Two things;
I want to show the world what I see.
I want others to feel something when they see my work.
