We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taylor Gutierrez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Taylor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Weddings can be full of unexpected problems in general, so we always have to be prepared for last minute changes and learn to be flexible and adaptable.
One of biggest unexpected problems for us over the past two years was losing our physical salon at the height of the pandemic, due to no fault of our own. Losing that part of us caused us to think outside of the box and focus our energy into becoming a solely on location business. This gives us the most flexibility and allows us to provide a unique and personable service to our clients.
Not gonna lie, this experience was mentally, emotionally, and financially draining. After many tears and heartfelt conversations, we remembered that we are strong women and will pick up the pieces and persevere.
Since October 2020, we have successfully refocused our business to weddings and events only and have rebranded to more accurately reflect who we are as people and creatives.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Behind Violet + Rose Artistry are two sisters that always dreamed of owning a business together. We grew up in a house of creatives and were always encouraged to do whatever it is that we love. Working in a salon together prior to the start of our own business is what helped us realize our full potential as a creative team.
We offer on location hair and makeup services to brides, bridal parties, and any event that requires you to glam up! Not only are we there on the big day, we also help in the planning and are there every step of the way leading up. Cultivating real relationships with our clients is something we’re proud of. A lot of times we are there on the wedding day, but also get to be there for family pictures, maternity shoots etc.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Of course one of the most rewarding aspects is being a part of one of the most special days in someone’s life. Making them feel beautiful never gets old!
Being able to express ourselves via an artistic outlet is something we never take for granted and our love for it constantly pushes us keep educating and growing, both personally and creatively. Not to mention, getting to work with your sister/best friend is a dream come true. There’s never a dull moment with the two of us!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
We think society needs to realize that artistic/creative careers not only can be very successful, but are also important and necessary. Small business creatives are experts in their craft. We have sacrificed time and money to create a business out of our passion and talent. Rather than immediately choosing corporate businesses for your needs, look at small business creatives who you wouldn’t normally give a chance. By doing this, you’re not only helping the small business, but your community as well!
