We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Glaser recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
After quitting my full time job at an upscale country club, I was on a mission to create a business of my own. I was really interested in getting into the wholesale market, as I loved the ideas of working with retailers. I also am very creative, so that was how Uptown Blonde was born. About a year before I designed the Discodana, I wore a vintage mesh necklace to a Sam Hunt concert. It kind of looked like a bandana and gave off those glam western vibes that had slowly been coming into the fashion world. Well, when I was designing the bling bandana, I look that as my full inspiration. I added some rhinestones and created it in several colors… and BOOM! Months later was was selling to many retailers like Cavender’s and my designs are even sold to the Grand Ole Opry.
Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Taylor. Just an Uptown Blonde creating sparkly things here in Texas. I spent years dedicating 40+ hours a week to a workplace where my creativity was always “too much” of whatever — if I had a dollar for every time someone told me that something about me was too much, well I would not be busting my a$$ creating this brand, but rather sipping some poolside Sauvignon Blanc without a care in the world (haha) but really… I created this brand by taking all of the “negative” traits people told me I had and turning them into, Uptown Blonde! PINK, SPARKLES, BUBBLY, OVER THE TOP, and there is NEVER too much of anything around here. So welcome, all!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
It was scary, but I personally have funded EVERY part of Uptown Blonde. I quit my full time job and honestly was low on funds for so long. I was taking such a risk investing all of the money I had saved in my personal back account, but I knew if I didn’t do it, then I would not have been able to start the company.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I honestly treat all of my customers like friends. We chat about life, not just business — and I love that! We stay up to date with one another through Instagram messages, or even texts! Sure, I send out some marketing emails here and there… but I think being genuine and taking the time to really KNOW who you are working with is amazing for brand loyalty. I believe that so many of my customers buy from me because they want to see me THRIVE! I love that support.
