We recently connected with Taylor Foster and have shared our conversation below.
Taylor, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of my biggest risk was going back to college and choosing to still pursue my bachelors degree after being told that 78% of my financial aid was used up due to my previous attendance at Alma college, and to add to that only 24 out of my 72 credits that I earned from Alma would transfer over to Davenport University. After hearing those results I still chose to push my paper work through admissions and after receiving my acceptance letter to Davenport University, I was assigned a student advisor and him along with another valuable staff member made a wager/bet ( a steak dinner) that I would not graduate due to the circumstances that I would have to face on my new academic journey at Davenport. I came back from Alma due to the wreck of the economy at that time and the affects that it had on my home & mother. Not only did I graduate from Davenport University, I received academic scholarships that assisted and help pay for my classes, I was our universities student governor, I participated and played running back for Davenports Football team, and I made connections and friendships that helped fill voids and form me into the man and human being that I was purposed to be.
Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Taylor Amon Foster and I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On top of being able to gain and complete all my education requirements in my hometown, I have also been fortunate to perform & play football at a high level in our city & state which helped me gain the connections, support, and opportunities that I needed to have in order to walk the path that I am on today. Coming from a single parent home and seeing my mother go without certain balances in our home, and experiencing the natural ups and downs that comes from a single parent lifestyle motivated me to be the better version of my mother and father in positive manner. I graduated from Davenport University with my Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management and an Associates degree in Business Administration. Growing up & developing in Michigan and being placed in diverse and thriving environments based on my mothers hard work and resources, I got into the Human Resource field and Business industry because in West Michigan I felt it lacked men and people that not just looked like me but represented our culture & race in a positive and high level manner when it came to HR representation, and I wanted to be that tool that people used & needed when it came to coming up with positive solutions, business structures, and tactics that would help bring people together, comfortable with their work environment, and that would keep business doors swinging and producing the results that they are seeking. I also wanted to be in Human Resources because of the inspiration that I gained from watching my mother work as one of the top hair stylist and interior decorators in the state of Michigan, I felt that working in the Human resource & Business industry would allow me to design business structures and ideas that would genuinely help people and make people feel good after their work day or week like I seen my mom do for her clients. When I am not working, recruiting or creating business structures for organizations surrounding our community, I produce writings in my spare time that have shown results of not just helping me mentally and physically advance on my individual path but also my, peers and up and coming Generation Z members.I started journaling and writing the things that I seen, experienced, the wisdom that I genuinely sought out, and the many conversations that I had with people (my friends, elders,) throughout my personal journey & adventures. I started journaling during the winter of 2015 after I was gifted a black journal from my godmother. The reason I started journaling and creating messages which are now known as Wolf Talk Messages (which can be searched and found on instagram @wolftalkmessages) was because I realized the more I saw & experienced the more I recognized how much I was beating the odds that were put against me from personal life’s trauma, fulfilling past promises that were once lost daydreams through my personal trials, and I recognized that overcoming my personal roadblocks from choices & life’s test influenced my peers and members of Generation Z around me in a positive and an impactful manner. I am most proud of myself for being the individual and man that I am today and that I lacked at home and growing up.
Surviving this human being experience is not easy especially when one lacks the knowledge or character to make certain decisions, and that is why I created Wolf Talk. Wolf Talk is a foundation built on wisdom & a structured lifestyle that helps people achieve their goals, work & collaborate with others to produce positive results, and it has shown to help people obtain & maintain their heart desires. Wolf Talk was formed to produce results.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped build my reputation within our surrounding community is my connection to our surrounding community and the members in it. I also feel my annual flag football game that has taken place on the week of Thanksgiving at MSA Woodland Sports complex for the last two years has helped improve my reputation. This event was formed to raise awareness & money for the homeless and those in need. The funds that were raised and collected from the participants in the flag football game and from those that generously donated to this cause were given to Mel Trotter and will continue to be given to organizations that helps and builds people back up in our community.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of my biggest risk and times of showing resilience was me going back to college and choosing to still pursue my bachelors degree after being told that 78% of my financial aid was used up due to my previous attendance at Alma college, and to add to that only 24 out of my 72 credits that I earned from Alma would transfer over to Davenport University. While attending classes I worked 2 jobs to help support the needs that my financial aid could not cover. Not only did I graduate from Davenport University, I earned academic scholarships that assisted and help pay for my classes, I was our universities student governor, I participated and played running back for Davenports Football team, and I made connections and friendships that helped fill voids and form me into the man and human being that I was purposed and day dreamed to be.xc
