Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ellie McKenzie and Taylor Donato. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ellie and Taylor, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Ellie and I (Taylor) went to college at The University of West Alabama together and studied Integrated Marketing Communications. We worked on various creative projects together and eventually became super close friends. It dawned on us that we worked better together than when we were apart. So we decided to form Red Electric Studios. We thought there was a real opportunity for us to help people realize their business goals through the power of a strong brand identity.
The graphic design world can be a saturated industry but what set us apart was the fact that when you work with us, you get both design perspectives. Ellie and I have two different design brains, but somehow, they mesh in a way that creates powerful ideas. Not only that, but we were hearing so many instances of people who were unhappy with their designers, they didn’t receive all of their assets and plenty of horror stories… and we knew that we would make sure all of our clients never left us unhappy with our work.
We also both value the power of women in the workforce and had similar dreams of beginning our own businesses. This shared desire to succeed and help women move forward not only made us a perfect match for business partners but the perfect best friends.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Ellie and I got into this space through a strong desire to find ourselves outside of sports. We were both collegiate athletes, and this instilled in us our drive, discipline, and passion. When we discovered Integrated Marketing Communications, it was like our worlds collided, and we both found an outlet for all of those traits after our athletic careers ended. It was a perfect match and has led us to newfound passions.
Red Electric’s core goal is to help people realize their true potential in business using solid brand concepts and intuitive web design. We provide branding and web design services to those who want to live outside the box and create brands for their niche services that are unique to them!
We work primarily with photographers, but our ideal clients are anyone who wants to create a dream brand for their dream goals. We try to give our clients the ability to go from part-time business owners to achieve the confidence they need to step into their true CEO power. We like to think of ourselves as the stepping stones between who our clients are and who they want to be.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
We both dread the thought of going into an office from 9-5. We know so many people who love that life, and that’s amazing, but we like coffee, snuggling with our pups, and working on our own time. It helps us stay motivated and in love with what we do!
But one of our biggest goals is to keep making people happy. Seeing our clients’ faces light up when they start seeing their brand and website come together is so rewarding. Yes, being successful in business is great but what keeps us going is the satisfaction of helping someone else stop doubting themselves and take the next step to further their dreams.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
WORD OF MOUTH!! If you create meaningful relationships with your clients, they will always talk you up. We try to keep in touch with our clients because we value them as people! We love to watch them evolve into their true selves because that is 100% the most rewarding part of this business. Making sure you are always looking to connect with the people around you and genuinely caring about what you’re doing and who you’re serving is so important in this industry.
