Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor Coleman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taylor, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was a child I wanted to be an architect. I would draw up floor plans for dream homes and pass them out to my family members. From there I began drawing Dragonball Z characters and I haven’t stopped drawing since. Fast forward 15 years I quit my job and decided to work for myself selling my paintings and eventually starting my own clothing line.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Working for yourself will either build you or break you, fortunately for me, I was able to build a business doing what I love. Mixing both art and fashion. I was working at a print company for a few years and decided with my training from various departments I knew I had what it took to run my own business. In addition to selling my own paintings and running my own clothing brand I also help new designers create their clothing lines from creation to inception. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences being able to help others.
I’m most proud of myself for never giving up on myself. I’ll never give up on my dreams!
I would want any potential clients or followers to know that: I put my heart and soul into anything I do. I strive for longevity with everything I create. I want my work to be timeless, be it art or fashion(which is just wearable art in my eyes).
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal right now is becoming the first black woman to hold the title of creative director for COACH. I’ll do anything to get there. COACH is an American brand with high quality products that I feel gets overlooked for other leather based brands like GUCCI. I can help them change that!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
‘The Alchemist’ opened my eyes and really changed my life. Sometimes people get so hung up on the end result they miss out on the process which is the best part. Once you reach your goal you have to set new ones so why not enjoy the climb? I realized I was focused on the wrongs things and was forcing the process. The book changed my perspective completely.
