Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor Cohen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taylor, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I have always been doing photos, honestly I feel like since I was a little kid taking my Kodak images to Walgreens. I ended up falling into the career of photography by complete accident. A dear friend of mine Heather Goodman was a known photographer around Arizona and I always modeled for her to promote her services. Then I would photograph her for certain shoot ideas and she taught me everything I needed to know about a camera, tips, tricks, etc. I apprenticed under her for four years and then she moved to Hawaii for school leaving me with a lot of her clients. I was like “WOAH! I guess I’m a professional now!”. I always worked with it as a side hustle to give family and friends nice images at an affordable rate, I never thought I would even be full time. Fast forward to 2020, I ended up losing my engineering job (it was not a fit anyways) due to covid and companies tanking and I had to use my art to make money while there was no job market. Ever since then, I have run my business full time and am so grateful to have incredible people in my life that support what I do. I’m going on year 3 as of May!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Taylor Cohen and I am known as the business “Tcoh Photos”. I have been a photographer and videographer around Arizona for over 10 years, I specialize in creative portraiture, events, products, lifestyle, and travel. I absolutely LOVE working with others and getting to know people by photographing them. I think my biggest thing about my business is truly connecting with my clients to a point of friendship and truly trusting one another. There’s such a genuine and beautiful part of this business where you leave a shoot and your heart is so full from the experience, I want any clients to walk away feeling confident and incredible even before they get their images or videos. Everyone should feel amazing leaving a shoot.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I love meeting people, I don’t know how or why but I have been able to just bond with people over ouse of the most random things. Due to this I have so many different connections that somehow think of me to hire me for jobs! Anytime I’m out I always try to get people’s social media accounts and make sure we are able to connect in some sort of way.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Perseverance is the name of the game. Be undeniable, show up all the time, do the work, and you end up having referrals left and right. Also really truly love what you down down to the heart of it and wonderful things will follow. There is no other genuine feeling than people hiring someone knowing they are absolutely passionate in their field.
