We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taylor Clemons a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Taylor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

Success is relative, but I believe there’s a common baseline that many aspire to. While I’m still on my journey towards that, I’ve learned that the key to success lies in having faith and trust—in both yourself and the process. Without self-belief, it’s challenging to maintain the consistency needed to achieve your goals.

I recognize that obstacles will arise, but if you trust in your abilities and your plan, you’ll find it easier to navigate those challenges and get back on track rather than giving up. Although I haven’t reached my definition of success yet, I’m confident in my skills and have faith in my journey, which I believe will ultimately lead me there.

Taylor, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Taylor Clemons, and I’m a Makeup Artist based in Baltimore, MD. Like many, I feel I didn’t choose makeup – it chose me. I began my journey as a hairstylist, dabbling in makeup along the way, even though I didn’t feel particularly skilled at it at first. After exploring various phases in both hair and makeup, I found my true passion for makeup artistry, although I’m excited to start offering select hair services again soon.

What I’m most proud of is the progress I’ve made throughout this journey. It’s rewarding to see my name growing in this space, and I truly cherish the connections I build with my clients. I strive to create a safe space where we can chat, share experiences, and, of course, get glammed together.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Building social profiles really comes down to consistency and authenticity. When you consistently share genuine content that reflects you or your brand, growth naturally follows.

I was fortunate to have a viral video early in my journey, which significantly boosted my visibility and led to around 150 new followers from that one post alone. The key takeaway for me is that I wouldn’t have achieved that viral moment if I hadn’t committed to being consistent in my content creation. Staying determined and authentic laid the groundwork for that success.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Every career path has its perks, but my absolute favorite part is connecting with my clients. I love the variety of those interactions—sometimes we have great conversations during their service, while other times, we share a comfortable silence with music playing in the background. It’s rewarding to create an atmosphere where clients can either enjoy a fun chat or find personal time to reflect and unwind. Ultimately, I take pride in providing an experience that meets their needs, whether that’s through engaging conversation or simply allowing them to savor the moment.
