We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Avazpour recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I recently released my first music video for the song I wrote called “H.O.E.” (Heaven On Earth) back in June and this song and music video was a milestone for me in my career. I was so proud of the work of all artists involved. From the producer/co-writer of the song to the music video director, choreographer, videographer, dancers to the photographer who captured the album artwork. It took all of these people to help bring this vision I had to life. That vision was one about “logging out of your mind” and becoming aware of the paradise within the present moment. This has been a theme in my life over the last few years – discovering the joy and peace in the now when you let go of everything else. That message felt important to share, especially in the times we are currently living. I also love to dance and express my soul through my body so I knew I wanted a visual to accompany the song release. To see the vision and ZAVA fully realized through song, production, and visuals felt exciting and very, very rewarding.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My artist name, ZAVA, is the first four letters of my last name (AVAZpour). I am half-Persian and “Avaz” means voice or song in Persian. I flipped it from AVAZ to ZAVA because Persians read from right to left. ZAVA feels like a destiny to discover my own voice, my own song and share that with the world. I grew up singing and dancing because nothing brought me as much joy as performing. I started training in voice and dance when I was 10 and was inspired by all kinds of music. Empowerment Pop is how I’ve described my music in the past because that’s how it’s made me feel. I love music that has a groove and a specific vibe, wether it’s heartbreak, resilience, or euphoric.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Something I feel with the meaning of my name is to commit to a journey of uncovering the truth within my soul. Whatever feels true in this moment of my life for the rest of my life and communicating that through music and dance.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The collective experience hands down. We are all experiencing life in our own worlds, but art connects us. When someone goes through something, turns it into art, heals themselves and then that art helps heal others? That collective experience of healing and connection is what life is all about.
