We were lucky to catch up with Taya Partin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Created For This Doula Services was born from a combination of my personal experiences, my heart for serving others, and my professional background in education.
For over 13 years, I have worked with children and families as an educator. Throughout that time, I saw firsthand how important support systems are during life’s biggest transitions. Whether helping children learn and grow or partnering with families through challenges, I learned that people thrive when they feel supported, informed, and empowered.
I was scrolling through movies and saw The Business of Being Born. I had never heard of a doula or knew about the plight of maternal health, especially for women who look like me. After watching the documentary, I wished I had a doula for my two pregnancies. I had amazing doctors, but I went through my pregnancies and labors, my first labor being a blur, and not knowing that I had options.
As a wife, mother, and woman living in Eastern North Carolina, I also became aware of the unique challenges many pregnant women face in our community. I met mothers who felt overwhelmed, unheard, unsure of their options, or simply lacking the support they needed during pregnancy and birth. Many families, especially in rural communities, did not know what a doula was or that this type of support even existed.
I remember thinking, “Every mother deserves someone in her corner.” I want women to know that they have a voice and that they have choices. My ultimate goal is to help improve pregnancy experiences and help reduce maternal death.
The more I learned about birth work, the more everything seemed to align. My passion for education, advocacy, encouragement, and serving families all pointed in the same direction. It felt less like discovering a business idea and more like stepping into my calling.
The name Created For This came from a place of faith and purpose. I wanted mothers to know that they were created for this journey and that they didn’t have to walk it alone. At the same time, I felt God was calling me to this work—that I was created for this role as well.
What excited me most was the opportunity to bridge a gap in my community. I wasn’t trying to reinvent birth support; I wanted to make it more accessible, personal, and community-centered. My approach combines evidence-based education with holistic, compassionate, faith-based encouragement. I focus on helping families understand their options, create birth plans that reflect their values, and feel confident advocating for themselves throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
I knew this was a worthwhile endeavor because the need was already there. Every conversation with an expecting mother reinforced it. Women wanted information. They wanted support. They wanted someone who would listen without judgment and walk alongside them. I realized that by offering culturally supportive, community-based care, I could help families feel seen, heard, and empowered during one of the most important moments of their lives.
Today, Created For This Doula Services is about much more than birth support. It’s about building a village, strengthening families, and helping mothers step into their journeys with confidence. Every client I serve reminds me why I started: because every mother deserves support, every birth story matters, and no family should have to navigate the journey alone.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Taya Partin, and I am the owner and founder of Created For This Doula Services, LLC, a faith-based, community-centered birth doula service serving families throughout Eastern North Carolina. I am a wife, mother, educator, and birth worker who is passionate about supporting women and families as they navigate one of the most transformative seasons of their lives. A central scripture behind my business is “Perhaps this is the moment for which you were created.” -Esther 4:14.
Before becoming a doula, I spent 13 years working in Early Childhood Education and with young children with special needs. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with children and families, helping them learn, grow, and overcome challenges. That experience taught me the importance of advocacy, education, patience, and support—skills that naturally translated into birth work.
My journey into the birth world began with a desire to help women feel more confident, informed, and supported during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. As I learned more about maternal health and the role doulas play in improving birth experiences, I realized there was a significant need in my community. Many women, especially those in rural areas, lack access to education, support, and resources throughout pregnancy. I knew I wanted to help fill that gap.
Today, through Created For This Doula Services, I provide birth doula support, prenatal education, labor support, comfort measure visits, birth planning assistance, postpartum guidance, and community resource connections. My goal is to ensure that every family I serve feels empowered to make informed decisions and supported every step of the way.
One of the biggest problems I help solve is the feeling of uncertainty and isolation many expecting parents experience. Pregnancy can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. Families are often faced with countless decisions, conflicting information, and fears about labor and birth. I help simplify the process by providing evidence-based education, emotional support, practical guidance, and a calming presence during labor.
What sets me apart is my unique combination of professional experience, faith-based perspective, and commitment to building community. I approach every client relationship with compassion, respect, and the belief that every mother deserves to be heard, valued, and supported. I strive to create a safe space where families can ask questions, explore their options, and feel confident in their choices.
The name “Created For This” reflects the heart behind my business. It serves as a reminder that mothers are capable, strong, and uniquely created for their journey. It also reflects my personal belief that this work is part of my purpose. Supporting women through pregnancy and birth is not simply a profession for me—it is a calling.
What I am most proud of is the trust families place in me during some of the most important moments of their lives. Being invited into a birth space is an incredible honor that I never take for granted. I am also proud of the relationships I have built within my community and the opportunities I have had to educate families about the value of doula support.
If there is one thing I want people to know about me and my brand, it is that I genuinely care. Created For This Doula Services is about more than birth support—it is about creating a village. My mission is to ensure that mothers and families feel informed, empowered, respected, and supported throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.
At the end of the day, I want every family I serve to walk away knowing they were never alone. They had someone in their corner, advocating for them, encouraging them, and reminding them of their strength every step of the way. My approach to my clients is holistic because pregnancy is not only physical, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual. I also like to incorporate my love for country living, including gardening and raising backyard chickens, when possible.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my life happened during my college years. Like many students, I entered college with a clear vision of what I thought my future would look like. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on the pre-med track and fully intended to pursue a career in medicine to become an obstetrician.
At the time, becoming a doctor seemed like the perfect path. I was passionate about helping people, fascinated by health and science, and excited about the opportunities the medical field could provide. I approached my coursework determined to succeed and confident that I was headed in the right direction.
Then came chemistry.
While I worked hard, chemistry challenged me in ways I had not anticipated. For the first time, I found myself questioning whether the path I had chosen truly aligned with my strengths and interests. It was frustrating because I had invested so much of my identity into becoming a future physician. Admitting that I might need to change directions felt like admitting failure.
Around that same time, I began taking courses in psychology and sociology. What started as general education requirements quickly became subjects I genuinely loved. I was fascinated by human behavior, relationships, communities, and the social factors that influence people’s lives. I found myself looking forward to those classes in a way I never had with chemistry.
The more I explored those disciplines, the more I realized that my passion was not simply about medicine—it was about people. I wanted to understand how individuals grow, learn, cope, and thrive within their families and communities. That realization led me to make the difficult decision to pivot and change my academic focus, ultimately majoring in psychology and sociology.
At the time, the decision felt uncertain. There was no guarantee of what my career path would look like, and it meant letting go of a dream I had held for years. Looking back, however, that pivot was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The knowledge I gained through psychology and sociology eventually shaped my work as an educator, where I supported children and families. Those same foundations now influence my work as a birth doula. Every day, I draw on what I learned about human development, communication, family systems, cultural influences, and emotional support to help families navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum life.
That experience taught me an important lesson: sometimes a pivot is not a sign that you are moving away from your purpose—it is a sign that you are moving closer to it. What initially felt like a setback became a redirection that allowed me to build a career centered on service, advocacy, education, and empowerment.
Today, as the founder of Created For This Doula Services, I can see how every step of that journey prepared me for the work I do now. My path may not have unfolded exactly as I planned, but it unfolded exactly as I needed it to.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my reputation has been built through years of consistently serving others with authenticity, professionalism, and genuine care. Working as a teacher for many years in my community helped me develop a reputation for being dependable, compassionate, patient, and committed to helping others succeed. Families knew that I cared deeply about their children and that I would go above and beyond to support them.
Because I have lived and worked in Eastern North Carolina for many years, many people in the community already knew me before I launched Created For This Doula Services. They knew my work ethic, my character, and my heart for serving families. That foundation of trust has been invaluable as I have grown my business.
Word-of-mouth referrals have been one of the biggest contributors to my reputation and growth. In both education and birth work, relationships matter. When people have a positive experience, they naturally share it with their friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors. Some of my greatest opportunities have come from people simply telling others, “You should talk to Taya.”
Networking and relationship-building have also played a significant role in establishing my presence within the maternal health community. I have intentionally connected with healthcare providers, childbirth educators, community organizations, fellow birth workers, and local businesses that serve families. By showing up, volunteering, attending community events, participating in professional development opportunities, and building genuine relationships, I have been able to expand both my knowledge and my network. These connections have helped me become a trusted resource for families seeking support during pregnancy and birth.
I also believe that being approachable and community-focused has helped. My mission has always been bigger than simply growing a business—I want to help build a village for families. I strive to meet people where they are, listen without judgment, and provide support that is educational, empowering, and compassionate. Whether someone becomes a client or simply needs resources and encouragement, I want them to feel supported.
Another factor has been consistency. Whether I am working as an educator, supporting a doula client, networking with community partners, or sharing educational content online, I try to show up with the same values: integrity, compassion, respect, and service. Over time, those consistent actions build credibility and trust.
Ultimately, I think my reputation comes down to relationships. People know that I genuinely care about the families and communities I serve. My goal is not only to provide excellent doula support but also to be a connector, advocate, and trusted resource. When people hear the name Created For This Doula Services, I hope they think of someone who is committed to supporting families, strengthening communities, and helping parents feel informed, empowered, and never alone on their journey.
