We were lucky to catch up with Tay Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success means different things to different people, but I think it comes down to a mix of consistency, adaptability, self-discipline, and the right mindset. It’s not just about talent or luck—it’s about how you show up every day, handle setbacks, and keep pushing forward even when things get tough.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned (and seen play out in so many stories) is that success isn’t about one big moment—it’s the result of small, daily actions compounded over time. The people who make it aren’t always the most talented, but they’re the ones who keep showing up, learning, and evolving.
A great example is Issa Rae, the creator of Insecure. She didn’t start with big Hollywood connections. Instead, she built her audience organically by creating content (Awkward Black Girl) on YouTube. She focused on authenticity, consistency, and storytelling, and eventually, her work caught the right eyes. What made her successful? She didn’t wait for a big break—she created her own lane and stayed persistent despite rejection.
I’d say the same applies to my journey. From building Beyond All Beauty to stepping into content creation and expanding my brand, I’m following the success formula: consistency, adaptability, and staying true to my vision.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Tay, and I’m the owner of Beyond All Beauty, a professional hair and makeup business specializing in weddings, commercial shoots, music videos, and celebrity styling. With over 29 years of experience in hairstyling and 16 years working in the wedding industry, I’ve built a brand that delivers luxury, on-location beauty services to brides, models, and high-profile clients across Southern California and beyond.
How I Got Into The Industry
My love for hairstyling started at the age of 5yrs old. I’ve always been a natural-born artist, fascinated by how a great hairstyle can completely transform a person’s confidence. Over the years, I refined my skills, working in salons, behind the scenes of major productions, and with celebrity clients. I eventually transitioned into bridal beauty, where I found my passion for making brides look and feel their absolute best on their most important day.

What I’m Most Proud Of
One of my biggest accomplishments is being recognized as a go-to bridal hairstylist, working on commercials, music videos, and with major brands. I’m also proud of building Beyond All Beauty from the ground up, maintaining an exclusive, high-end reputation, and now working toward creating a beauty-on-demand app that will connect top artists with elite clientele.
What Potential Clients & Followers Should Know
I’m quiet, blunt, and an introvert, but my work speaks for itself.
My brand is about luxury, exclusivity, and top-tier artistry.
I’m building a high-demand beauty team, so if you’re a talented, professional artist, I’m looking for you!
I bring a sense of humor and personality into everything I do, whether it’s styling a bride.
If you’re a bride-to-be, I don’t just “do hair” – I give you an unforgettable, VIP beauty experience.
Beyond All Beauty is growing, and I’m excited to take it to the next level. Stay tuned for big things coming in beauty, bridal, and content creation!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Honestly, I built my reputation just by being excellent at hair. I’ve been in this game for almost 30 years, and I know hair inside and out. People trust me because I’m consistent—I show up, do the work, and make sure my clients look flawless every time.
I don’t play when it comes to professionalism either. I’m reliable, I stay ready, and I make sure my work speaks for itself. A lot of my business comes from word-of-mouth because people know I deliver. I’ve worked with celebs, done music videos, commercials, weddings—you name it. That kind of experience puts me in a different lane.
Plus, I know my worth. I’m not out here trying to compete with people who charge less but can’t match my skill. My brand, Beyond All Beauty, is about quality, not just taking any booking. And let’s be real—when you set a certain standard, the right clients come to you. That’s how I’ve built my name in this industry.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Managing a team and keeping morale high is super important to me, especially in the beauty industry where energy and attitude make a difference. Here’s how I handle it:
1. Be Clear on Expectations
I let my team know upfront what I expect—how to present themselves, how to treat clients, and the level of professionalism I want. If you’re on my team, you represent Beyond All Beauty, and that means looking the part, acting the part, and delivering top-tier work.
2. Lead by Example
I don’t ask my team to do anything I wouldn’t do. I show up on time, stay prepared, and keep my attitude in check. The energy I bring is the energy I want back.
3. Recognize Good Work
When someone on my team does an amazing job, I let them know. Whether it’s a shoutout on social media, giving them a prime client, or just saying, “You killed it today,” I make sure they feel appreciated.
4. Keep the Team Growing
I want my team to feel like they’re leveling up, not just working. So, I push them to perfect their skills, try new techniques, and build their own brand within my brand. If I can bring in industry pros for workshops, even better.
5. Create a Vibe
We spend a lot of time together, so I like to keep the environment positive. No drama, no bad energy. I also try to plan things outside of work, whether it’s dinner, a beauty event, or just a fun night out.
6. Handle Issues the Right Way
If there’s a problem, I talk to the person privately. I don’t do gossip, I don’t do unnecessary drama. I keep it real, give people a chance to fix things, and if they can’t, we move on.
7. Be Fair
I keep the work balanced and make sure everyone gets their fair share of bookings. If someone isn’t pulling their weight, we have that conversation. But no favoritism—it’s all about talent and work ethic.
8. Make the Team Look Exclusive
I want my team to be the beauty experts that everyone wants. That means marketing us as a high-end, in-demand team. I showcase my team because they’re part of the brand, and when we look good together, we attract better clients.
At the end of the day, I want my team to feel valued, inspired, and proud to be part of Beyond All Beauty. If we’re all winning, the business grows, and we all eat. That’s the goal.
