I created the business with my children because a family business can be a great way to build wealth and create a legacy for future generations. One of the benefits of a family business is that it can provide a sense of stability and continuity. Family members are often more invested in the success of the business than non-family employees, which can lead to greater loyalty and commitment. A family business also tends to have a long-term perspective, which can help them weather economic downturns.

I temporarily suspended operations of my mobile beauty agency in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, my oldest daughter expressed an interest in selling cookies, prompting a discussion with a close friend about her budding business. Serendipitously, my friend suggested that I incorporate Alcohol-Infused Popcorn into the menu as an additional offering.
Motivated by the idea, I diligently conducted thorough research to develop a range of recipes for these novel popcorn creations. To ensure the quality and appeal of the product, I organized a focus group, seeking valuable feedback from a diverse set of individuals. The response surpassed expectations, as each member of the focus group awarded our Alcohol-Infused Popcorn with glowing 5-star reviews.
Thus, fueled by this positive reception, I have embarked on this new venture, expanding beyond cookies to offer the delectable and unique Alcohol-Infused Popcorn.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I embarked on establishing the business using my personal savings as an initial investment. Despite facing challenges in securing a start-up business grant or loan, I was determined not to delay or rely solely on hopeful opportunities. Thus, I chose to leverage my own resources and fund the venture independently.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

We utilized various strategies to expand our business presence and attract customers. Firstly, we actively participated in numerous pop-up events, where we showcased our products and engaged with potential customers. Additionally, we secured placements for our products in various marketplaces, which provided increased visibility and access to a wider customer base.

During these events and marketplace placements, we took the opportunity to personally introduce our products to many individuals and distributed our business cards to ensure future contact. This helped us build connections and establish a strong network of potential customers and partners.

The role of social media in our success cannot be understated. By maintaining a strong online presence, we were able to reach a larger audience and generate a significant amount of interest in our products. This contributed to the growth of our business as more people became aware of our offerings and shared them with their own network.

Word of mouth has also played a crucial role in our customer acquisition. Thanks to the positive experiences and satisfaction of our existing customers, they have been instrumental in referring us to their friends, family, and colleagues. This organic form of marketing has considerably boosted our customer base and overall business growth.

Furthermore, my expertise as a hairstylist has allowed us to cater to a wide range of customers. By providing hairstyling services for numerous weddings, we have gained valuable exposure and attracted new clients interested in both our services and products.
