We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tawny Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tawny, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.

I wouldn’t say that I do anything “differently”. There are many ways to separate your photography from others, but it is important to find your own unique voice and style. I try to focus on a specific area of photography that I am passionate about, such as weddings, family or maternity sessions. I am definitely not a posed photographer; my photos are always more candid, interaction-based and will not always be perfectly centered or framed. I truly love to embrace the chaos and capture the raw love and happiness!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a lifestyle & wedding photographer who loves capturing golden light and authentic happiness! I have always been obsessed with taking pictures and fascinated with photography. It started off as a hobby about 12 years ago when my first daughter was born. It quickly lead me down a path where I just became obsessed with photography and invested in my first “real” camera. Honestly, I am so blessed that my photography business has taken off like it has. I really do have the best clients that continue to support me and my business year after year!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Definitely word of mouth! Word of mouth and sharing on reels, stories, or other viral content as well as daily conversations in real life! Having families tag and share my work on social media platforms really helps! I am so appreciative of my clients who continue to refer me to their friends and family time and time again.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

I feel like I am constantly pivoting my business and life. I have 5 kids, who like to keep my on my toes – so between school, homework, sports, photography, PTA and home life, I am fortunate enough to create my own schedule around all of life’s crazy moments!
