We were lucky to catch up with Tawney Noriega recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tawney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
In the realm of networking, Corporate America often gravitates toward a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, where there’s an unspoken expectation for everyone to fit into a prescribed mold. In stark contrast, at Ventura County Business Women (VCBW), we value the distinctiveness of every individual. We understand that every journey, every story, plays an indispensable role in shaping who we are. Rather than urging members to hard-sell or spam, we emphasize sharing personal narratives because we recognize that tapping into one’s unique inner power, truth, and alignment is fundamental for a fulfilling business. It’s essential to intertwine personal growth with business growth; the two are inextricably linked, especially for women entrepreneurs who navigate multifaceted roles daily.
Ventura County Business Women’s mission is rooted deeply in creating a sacred space for businesswomen, fostering both personal and professional growth, while recognizing and honoring their expansive roles beyond just business. What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to integrating the personal with the professional. This fusion not only strengthens the foundation upon which businesses are built but also fosters a holistic sense of fulfillment. My journey towards realizing this mission was intensely personal. I yearned for this kind of support and community for myself, feeling isolated and disconnected. Creating VCBW was an embodiment of my realization that genuine transformation, both personal and professional, springs from authentic connection, empowerment, and alignment. When women are seen, heard, and supported holistically, they can truly create magic.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Born in Twin Falls, ID, and raised in the close-knit community of Ojai, CA, I embarked on a transformative journey from enduring challenging childhood circumstances to becoming the founder of VCBW. My commitment to igniting the inner power within every woman lights up every aspect of my journey. I believe in illuminating paths that lead to a soul-satisfying life and business, fiercely advocating for the belief that we all are so much more than the mundane routines and draining distractions that we sometimes find ourselves enveloped in. I see beyond the robotic motions of daily life, recognizing opportunities to reconnect, rekindle joy, passion, and purpose that many of us have inadvertently pushed to the side.
My mission in every endeavor is crystal clear: to guide women back to their power, truth, and alignment to create a life that is SOULFULLING.
I am privileged to support the VCBW community with my rich background in business operations and development, social media marketing, and community building. However, my approach stands out as refreshingly distinct. I bridge the often-separate realms of inner work and business logistics, providing a space and guidance for women to harness the power of their intuition to shape their life and business from a soul-centered place. My synthesis of high-level expertise in business growth with profound inner work not only distinguishes me but also empowers every woman to dream and achieve on a grander, more authentic scale.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our community has undoubtedly been our approach of ‘sharing over selling.’ We focus on authentically sharing stories about ourselves and our businesses in a way that fosters emotional connection, relatability, and trust. This isn’t just a marketing strategy, but a core principle of our community, Ventura County Business Women (VCBW). Our message and methodology cater to women who are seeking not just professional connections, but emotional and empowering ones, too. By acknowledging and honoring the multifaceted nature of being a businesswoman and a human being, we give our members permission to embrace and present all aspects of themselves. This approach has spurred remarkable growth, as women naturally gravitate towards and flourish in environments where they feel seen, heard, and empowered. When they find a safe space, they not only create magic but also establish ripples of impact and connection in the wider community. Therefore, the authentic sharing of experiences, challenges, and triumphs in our personal and professional journeys has not only helped us attract our ideal clientele but also build a deeply connected, supportive, and flourishing community.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
2021 was a defining year for me. I realized that I was drowning in distractions and routines that drained my vitality and joy. I took a conscious decision to shift my focus from what drained me to what invigorated my spirit. A huge transformation from being so stuck in survival mode to leaning into play & pleasure. This shift was more than just a change in perspective; it was a total life makeover. I moved back with family in Ojai, realigned my priorities, and dived deep into introspection. By focusing on higher-frequency questions, I began to harness my intuition and tap into a higher power. This journey of self-discovery not only transformed me personally but also deeply influenced how I approached business. I firmly believe that real success stems from within, and my experiences have equipped me to guide others to create clarity, self-love, inner peace, personal power, and alignment.
