We recently connected with Tawanda Sparks and have shared our conversation below.
Tawanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Some years back, the year 2015 to be exact. I was tired of being surrounded by people who drained me and had no ambition, no motivation, or inspiriation. I had lived like that my entire life and I knew that I wanted more for myself and my children. I was fed up with feeling depressed and I made a bold move by leaving the state of Alabama where I was born and raised and most comfortable at to relocate to Atlanta. I had basically nothing but my kids, a few bags of clothes, a broken down car, and a job. Well that was something but not much. Anyway, just days before leaving I was evicted and my things that was sat outside was stolen in minutes while I was at the storage place getting a uhaul and a storage unit. I just couldn’t win but I moved anyway because I needed a change so I took a big leap of faith and left all of my family behind to see what this new life had to offer. Although this was not easy, it turned out to be the best decision I have made. After moving, I had a job that paid more than I ever earned in my life, but shortly after I was fired. I was determined to make the best out of what I was going through so giving up was not an option. I was only out of work for a month and that is when things started to get better. See, what I needed was to be around others who were already leveling up in life. I needed to see other women striving for success so I followed those women on social media and studied them. I reach out and began to network with others although I had no business of my own at the time. I finally started sessions with a business coach and the idea of me sharing my story by writing a book was the perfect idea because I always said in my teen years that I would write a book and then the idea was there and I just needed to act on it. Fast forward to now, I am now the Author of Weeping Courage a Memoir, Co-Author and contributor of Women on The Rise All Access book and docu-series and the Co-Author on the #1 Best Seller Broken Crayons Still Color Volume 2. I could have stayed in my comfort zone but instead I took a huge risk with little to nothing and made something big happen in my life. Living in comfort and fear, will stop you from accomplishing your goals but to live a life of excellence is to take risks.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

As a life coach, the Millennial Mom Motivator, I assist my clients in identifying counter mindsets and how to change their self talk. I also find ways to encouraged and motivate each individual client to step out of their comfort zone by putting themselves in situations that challenges them.
In the beginning I had a fixed mindset and I thought that the life that I was born into is the life that I should live. Once I recognized that this was not true and that I was not living up to my potential, I had to change the way that I was thinking. I had to find things that challenged me. I had to thing positive and push all of the negative thoughts out of my mind. So this is why when I am coaching we start off with identifying the counter mindsets that may be hindering you as a person.
I am most proud of myself for being so bold and courageous for stepping outside of the box and finding me and following my passion. I am so glad that I took the risk!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish that I knew more about marketing and content creating for Authors. This has been an area that I have struggled with because I want to keep my audience engaged.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to help as many women as I can to accomplish their goals and live a fruitful life by first just taking the risk and putting some action behind the goals they already have set.
