We were lucky to catch up with Tawana Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tawana , appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe consistency is the key to being successful. I remember when I began my cosmetology career I wanted a large clientele so bad & fast. It didn’t come as quickly as I desired but it did come. I kept perfecting my craft, I put in the long hours, I stayed consistent and one day I looked up and realized what I dreamt & prayed for was here.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well I’m a professional hairstylist with over 23 years of experience. I am very passionate about Hair care & Styling. I have loved everything about hair as long as I can remember. Even as a child I remember constantly styling my dolls hair & enjoying every minute of it. I always knew that I would be a hairstylist someday and I can honestly say..I love everything about this industry. I’m a salon suite owner now & enjoy the full control that I have..being an entrepreneur is the best ever!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Back in 2018 I was diagnosed with leukemia. Business was great and out of nowhere I was hit with this illness. I thought how could this be happening to me? I workout, I try to eat healthy so how is this happening? Unfortunately I had to close my business down not knowing if I would ever return. Well I went through 8 months of chemo and I beat cancer!! I knew I had too much to live for, so many things I still needed to do. With a lot of care and prayers I’m in remission and returned back to my salon in January 2019. I was determined to win! I knew God had an assignment for me to finish and it wasn’t my time. It was tough but I’m grateful to be here today.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I would say the best source of new clients is old clients. Word of mouth is powerful! When you’re consistent and make people feel important it shows. Also customer service is huge for me. I feel like that can take you a long way in this business.
