We recently connected with Tawana Rice and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tawana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ve taken many risk during my real estate career and I’m learning that my biggest blessings come from stepping out of my comfort areas to explore newer levels the career brings. When first beginning to explore Real Estate, I held such a strong passion for the career I couldn’t wait to make the first move. It was time to make the dream a reality.
My daughter had just left for college and I was raising 2 younger sons. My husband began a career of weekly travel and there was a lot of responsibility I upheld within our household during his time away.
My vision for launching the career grew deeply that I made an immediate decision to resign from my employer and just embrace my dreams. It was truly a risk and sacrifice for our family. However, I was confident that something great was going to birth and I kept the pace for goal.
I spent long nights researching the industry while creating my action plan for success. Worked twice as hard to see increased levels of growth. Longer than the average Realtor. It was tough multi-tasking as a mom and wife. Tough deciding how to make the best of a 24-hour day. I knew that first impression with clients needed to be a lasting impression. This would be the key for growing referrals for more business. Through organic efforts, I’ve been able to create a stable business and maintain consistent clientele of buyers and sellers.
I can say the decision to take a risk of launching my real estate business has been short of disappointment or regret. I’m living my purposed dream. It’s been very rewarding for our family both financially and has created a new burst of joy. Allowing us to explore new levels of happiness.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina area. I’ve worked many sales and marketing roles since age of 19. I’ve achieved many award recognitions, rankings & promotions throughout the time. It was natural for me to succeed at anything I touched. I implement my knack for sales/customer service into my Real Estate career and have witnessed levels of growth in such a short timeframe.
However, selling real estate in just my hometown wasn’t enough for me. There was a hunger to explore other areas I loved such as Charlotte NC and Raleigh NC. I was determined to use my real estate skills in these areas to create the enjoyment of helping families. This too was a risk to expand, but not regretful at all.
I call myself “The Traveling Realtor” and I’m loving it. I gladly help an array of clients throughout North Carolina in many aspects. For example, clients relocating that are undecided with an area to live and need to explore multiple cities to narrow the decision. Or, relatives and friends of my existing clients which live in other areas. I am considered as their family Realtor. I am having the best time of my life and I see even more expansion ahead.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Keeping organic. Making a lasting impression and understanding your client’s needs. Representing them well. Being flexible to your client and educating them concerning the home buying/selling process.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I rarely experience many slow months of business. However, when a slow month appears I learn not to be moved. This is the time to become creative and having a great attitude is key. May also be a moment to regroup. No matter what changes around you. It doesn’t define your success. You have the ability to create the success you want and it begins with your thinking. I’ve made myself available to all home purchasing categories and price points which helps me generate quick and steady closings for my business. Being diverse to demographic areas enables me to travel a little further to close more sales. Keeping resilience even through tough periods. Trending double closing numbers in a month could easily balance out a slower previous month.
