We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tavia and Tamika Wimby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tavia and Tamika below.
Tavia and Tamika, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our mission is to show the world that women can be successful in the freight transportation industry. We are a women-owned freight brokerage that provides customers with trust, transparency, and tranquility. We are one of very few companies in this industry that is women-owned and minority-owned. We want the world to know that women can tap into a male dominated industry and be very successful in that industry.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
We are, Tavia and Tamika Wimby, the proud owners of Theurgy Logistics. We are a women and minority-owned logistics company that provides 3PL services providing exceptional transportation logistics services across the United States. From exhibit houses to display designs to audiovisual companies, we’re equipped to handle the diverse needs of almost any form of operation in the United States and around the World. From scheduling to unloading, we are here to ensure your transportation always arrives safely and on time. We began as two single mothers, working day to day to take care of our family. As the years progressed, we began working in this industry and continued to grow our knowledge in logistics. We saw a need for more women in this industry and decided to step out on faith to begin our company and tap into the world of logistics.
Our biggest accomplishment is we have over 25+ experience in the freight logistics industry. After working many years in the industry, we decided to step out on faith and begin our own business. We started our own company in our home office with just the two of us. We completed sales, scheduling, payroll, operations, and corporate all out of our home office. Now, we have office locations in Atlanta, Houston, Los Angelas, with a full staff of employees for both corporate and operations and were able to establish this in less than 3 years.
We understand what hard work and dedication means. Therefore, our mission is trust, transparency, and tranquility, to let our clients know that we are dedicated to providing the most efficient and reliable service. We create and maintain positive relationships with our clients so that they feel confident that their shipments arrive to its destination quickly and efficiently. We stand by our customers from initial request of service to the time of delivery, we are there 24/7, 365 days per year through the entire process of shipping. We provide air and ground scheduling of movement of shipments to provide our clients with options that best fit their needs.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy we have for growing our clientele is understanding you are and your brand! When growing clientele, you must also understand and research what is the need in your industry. If you are knowledgeable in the constant change of your industry, you are more effective in gaining new clients because you can give them strategies to boost productivity for their company and clients are looking for that when searching for potential businesses.
Lastly, show how you build and maintain client relationships. We make sure to show how we appreciate our clients from token of thanks gifts to dinner parties, this allows us to show potential clients that they are appreciated and welcomed.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We both started out as two single mothers working day to day jobs to keep food on the table for our children. We have always been hard workers, but we had to make sacrifices for our children in order to make sure they had the proper things needed. We worked 10-12 hour days, and we had to work hard to make sure our household were maintained. We pushed through many adversities that came our way. When we decided to start our company, we had to do what we call “put foot to pavement”. We received more no’s in the beginning than we did yes’s, but we did not give up. We pitched our business no matter the weather. Running a full-fledged logistics company with just two people is not an easy task, but we knew, with continued movement we would grow and become a successful multi-million dollar company.
