We recently connected with Taurean (Archie) and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Taurean thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I recently just had an epiphany thanks to my good friend Shay Mack. This film industry can’t be everything for you. Yes I want to be one of the greatest actors to walk this planet but I can’t destroy myself in the process. I hope my legacy will be paying back my mom and grandma for everything that they have done for me. My career wouldn’t be anywhere if it wasn’t for them. I hope that I have a wife and a couple kids because I’ve wanted since I was an adolescent. I want to pass down knowledge and security to my family. I want to open doors for people who look just like me. I hope my legacy shows that all I tried to do was take love and spread it.
Taurean, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name Taurean Archie but my friends call me Archie. I’m an Atlanta actor. It’s been fun climbing my way to the top. Still haven’t accomplished what I truly want which is someone to book me through an audition. Last article, I was saying oh how my goal was just to be on TV but now that I’ve done that numerous time through crime docs and the Wonders Years, it’s time for new goals. I started off doing background for free, FOR FREE! It’s so crazy to think where I started and where I’m at now. I’m part of the East Coast Talent Agency owned by Barbra Garvey who is also my agent. She has really opened my eyes to the industry just by being apart of her agency. It gave me a huge reality check because I’ve realized that being an actor is probably the hardest job on the planet. Not because of the work but because of the politics. That taught me that I can’t give this business all of me even though I love it with all my heart.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
First time I ever got invited to Knoxville to do the show “For My Man”, my car almost wouldn’t make it. I mean I was going up mountains and my car would barely go over 40 mph but I wanted that booking so bad. I rub my car, spoke her through it and prayed to god to get me to my timeshare safely. Would I ever do it again? Probably! But the pay and opportunity has to be a lot bigger. It really sucked being in that moment but seeing the finished product on TVone was everything. It was definitely worth it for me but I do not recommend it for you.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to just forget about auditions. Easier said than done because honestly I’m always thinking about the ones I submit. Politics play heavy when it comes to first team actors so can’t really let your auditions get you down. I had to learn to just have fun with it and if they accept you they accept and if they don’t they don’t. Yes you may want to book that role so bad but the chances of that with being a new actor in Atlanta are very slim so it’s better just to submit and just let go..
