We were lucky to catch up with Tauran Woo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tauran, thanks for joining us today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
I had the great pleasure and experience of working in several creative industries and learning from those who were performing at a high level in their field. In many cases, I came in as the new, inexperienced hire who was shown the ropes by people who were creative and competent.
As a younger person, I started my professional life as someone who took a long time to complete tasks, especially when it involve creativity or artistry. One of the most valuable tools I learned over the years, was how to focus and complete creative work on a deadline. The lesson that was learned was that sometimes, inspiration does not always blossom when you ask for it, but if you start with some reliable and basic ideas, you will complete your work and support your team members or co-workers. Perhaps one can not expect to hit a ‘home run’ every time, but sometimes. a single or double (forgive the baseball analogies) is adequate. Over time, managing tight assignment deadlines or a dearth of inspiration will be easier to navigate around, and you will possess new tools to manage your work, and in many instances, your personal life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the owner and sole operator of my Wedding and event photography company. I aim to deliver exquisite and creative photography, along with world-class customer service and care. 20 years of happy clients are part of the reason that I can be so proud of what we’ve accomplished over the years.
Tauran Photography is based in Los Angeles, but serves all of Southern California, Northern California, all of the continental US as well as Hawaii, and international clients as well.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
We use traditional and modern marketing, such as print, social media, internet ads, etc, but our most effective source of new clients is satisfied customers who refer us to new potential clients. There is nothing more valuable than treating clients to a great experience and having their raves push clients to your work.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Great work, amazing customer care, and phenomenal relationships with other small business owners as well as vendors, venues, and other peripheral businesses. Never underestimate where your next client may come from.
