Tau Tau, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Yes,being a business owner is the best choice to balance my my ‘JOb ‘ and ‘Dream’.I don’t need to think about what it would like to just have a regular job, because I tried it when I started as a Timber sales’.Maybe not everyone is lucky like me to finally find a way to balance the dilemma between between the ‘dream job’ and the ‘money business’.I no longer need to make a choice any more.I own a German Timber business and meanwhile I make feature films, the 2 roles shift in my daily life and have a good balance of my time and focus.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder of Lumax Resources Group.We are dedicated to provide worldwide timber users with sustainable and eco-friendly wood-supply solutions from Germany since 20 years.They say :’Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps the signing bird will come’,therefore with the ‘Green Tree in our heart’ as our original aspiration ,Lumax Group has grown a creative wing -Lumax Original Films in recent years to develop and produce films projects that we could apply our eco-friendly sustainable knowledge and resources to a ‘green-shooting’ concept. Wood Industry is undeveloped in many ways compared with other economies.Most businesses in the timber industry have consistently relied on traditional methods of working ,Lumax has adopted many innovations and digitalizations to help the industry to simultaneously drive both sustainability and production efficiency, this helped us growing stronger and survived the challenges during pandemic.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I have quite different background from other fellow business leaders in Timber industry.They usually have a family business /forest/resources passing on from generation to generation and grown up by knowing and learning the industry with first-hand knowledged,but I entered the industry while I was still a college student and by chance discovered a world that I was curious and passionate about .The advantage was: I founded Lumax group with fresh eyes and immediately realized the problems and challenges of digitalizations and innovations.Without knowing the industry better,I tried to adapt all the ‘advanced’ knowledge and tools of digitalizations and innovations into my supply-chain and operation methods, resulting in bad communications and isolated from the whole industry and clients. There’re lot’s traditions and wisdom in this industry that we must embrace, it sounds always correct and easy to say ‘lets go green,’let’s innovate’ ,’stop cutting the trees’ from the rest of the world, but the deeper I know about this industry, the more important I learned that we must embrace and respect the reality and the original spirit first,finding the suitable and scientific solutions and give it a right timeframe to adopt.I hope the rest of the world could hear my story and before start judging our industry, get enough real knowledge about our industry first.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I think ‘result oriented ‘ is the key to maintain a team’s efficiency.I’m not a big fan to have lot’s team meetings or require the members to submit reports, so my team doesn’t have any ‘routine ‘.I trust the manager can find the best way to bring out the best of their teams and the sales will find the best way and time to fix the sales contracts,therefore they can have the freedom to find the best time/place/form they work and achieve the goals.(my team operates like this ever since I founded the company, far before the pandemic ).I found this way very effective to keep everyone together ,my team member went through big live events like marriage or giving birth to children or sicknesses…my freedom makes this ‘work’ fits in all kinds of lifestyle.they don#t need to make choices to be a member ,because they can be a member to work in my team anywhere and anytime.I practiced all the managements myself for this German based company from all over the road while I was lying down on beach or sick in hospital,so I know it works as long as everyone has a clear goal and no nonsenses required.
