We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tatyanna Dames. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tatyanna below.
Hi Tatyanna, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always loved fashion, putting together looks, online shopping, and the thought of owning my own business. When I was a child, I always knew that I would have my own business and be an entrepreneur. I remember when I was in college, I would try to find specific pieces to make the perfect outfit, and I would come up short every time. I always felt that I couldn’t find affordable pieces that matched my style and personality.
After I graduated college, the thought of starting my own clothing company kept lingering around, and I finally was like, let me sit down and do research on how to create a clothing company. After hours of research, I prepared my business plan, and now the hard part… figuring out a name. I had so many different name ideas that I bounced around with family and friends, and the name that stuck with everyone was She’s A Doll.
My logic behind She’s A Doll was that I wanted to create a clothing company that would make women feel beautiful in everything they wear by providing excellent quality material and design silhouettes and bringing out their inner doll. In addition, I wanted to provide a luxury experience from the online ordering process all the way until receiving their packaging with our luxury custom packaging.
My ultimate goal is for She’s A Doll to become a pillar in the community by providing local jobs, scholarships and helping other women start their businesses.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Tatyanna Dames, and I’m the Founder and CEO of She’s A Doll. I started She’s A Doll in 2018 in my college apartment after finding a void in the industry for affordable girly clothing that made you look and feel good. I’ve always loved online shopping and fashion, and this quickly became my dream career.
What sets me apart from others is my eye for detail. I believe that the small details are what matter in a brand. Providing excellent quality items, excellent customer service, and great packaging goes a long way.
I’m most proud of how far She’s A Doll has come. We’ve recently become an international company and have shipped packages as far as Saudi Arabia.
The main thing that I want potential followers to know is that every single detail is thought about with them in mind and created in love.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
At the beginning of 2019, I prepared a massive launch of these beautiful white dresses for the upcoming spring season. I had a photoshoot and sent out several emails and social media campaigns about launching these new dresses. One day sadly, it was a big storm that caused a leak in my inventory room. The rain ruined all the dresses, and I was devastated. After spending tons of money and having all my new inventory ruined, I wanted to give up.
I quickly remembered that I couldn’t give up at a slight inconvenience; this is my dream and what I’ve always wanted to do. So, later that day, I refunded and emailed all my customers who ordered the dress and sincerely apologized to them and explained the event that occurred. Everyone was so lovely and understanding about what happened, and almost everyone ordered something else to show their support for She’s A Doll. I was literally in tears.
Long story short, always be honest to your customers about what’s going on with their orders, and they will usually provide you with grace, and unfortunately, things will happen. It’s up to you on how you will move after an unfortunate event.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I was able to fund my business by using money saved from my job. After graduating college, I was able to land a corporate job, and shortly after, I decided to start, She’s A Doll. Every time I got paid, I would buy my LLC, inventory, the website subscription, ads, and everything else that I thought my business needed. I continued funding my business through my job until it started to make enough money to sustain itself. Eventually, I started getting offered funding from Paypal, Shopify, and my business bank account provider.
