We caught up with the brilliant and insightful TaTyana Price a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

TaTyana, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

The definition of success is to accomplish an aim or purpose. Throughout my career I have learned to expand that definition. Success is waking up and persevering when there seems like there is no hope. Success is resilience. Success is sometimes rearranging the overall concept of a goal to adapt to the new person you are developing into. Success is being able to weather a storm. It can be a small achievement we reach in an attempt to get towards our larger objective. Celebrating the smallest milestones to enhance the enjoyment of the larger moments. The best way I define success is never restraining myself to one form of measure. Success is anything I define it to be and how proud I am of everything I push myself to be.

TaTyana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am the founder of TJPRICE Productions media company , always found myself gravitating towards a camera. My career began in New York as a model and dancer for an all female professional dance group named Lush Varsity. I completed my first degree at Kingsborough Community College , specializing in Radio , Tv and Film Production. Following graduation , I transitioned into photography during my undergraduate years at the New York City College of Technology while obtaining an Entertainment Technology bachelor’s degree. After graduating and building a strong stage and technology presence, I continued to create my own content as well as expanding my clientele. What began as a photography portfolio turned into a full media portfolio. TJPRICE Productions was created as a one stop business for all your creative auditory and visual needs. I’m always looking to network and connect with new talent. The main objective is to bring high quality content to individuals from all walks of life. My vision is to create personalized sessions that meet the needs of each individual, including professional and novice clientele. You can create and be anything you want to be during a session. With creative direction , pose assistance and flexible execution options I will bring any and everyone’s visions to life.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?

One thing I believe non-creatives struggle to understand about my journey is often dealing with the unknown. With any business or craft one indulges in there will always be points of uncertainty. This includes a rapidly changing calendar, sometimes being overwhelmed with work and maintaining a healthy balance. Owners and freelancers can go from having a thriving business to being idle and not reaching goals (personal , monetary and entrepreneurial). Its difficult to maneuver as a creative but it’s harder for the support system at times as well. What has helped me so far is surrounding myself with understanding and patient people. In addition to understanding that at times I might be alone to achieve what I need to and finding peace in solitude.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being creative is working in a way that never truly feels like work. Every time I create a vision or consult a client on an idea they want to bring to life I feel like a kid in a candy store. The opportunities are endless as far as how you can achieve something . There are so many variations of ways to execute media shoots. From the aesthetic , lighting , camera/lens choices and editing techniques. I enjoy personalizing each shoot for each person as well as getting to know each client individually. Being creative allows me the freedom I love and to work and interact with people which I love doing even more.
