We recently connected with Tatyana Perreault and have shared our conversation below.
Tatyana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I’ve always had an adventurous spirit and was looking for a way to express that in my instagram handle and business name. One night I was spitballing ideas with my friend in Chicago and we came up with “Tatventures” – a mix between Tatyana (my first name) and Adventures. I felt like it was true to my passion exploring the world around me through adventures with friends and family and sharing it with others through my photography.

Tatyana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into photography because I wanted to share the beauty around me in Chicago and other travels with others through social media platforms like Instagram. I noticed that my iPhone pictures could only get me so far. I wanted a way to capture night photography through long exposures, portraits through a portrait lens, or shooting an architectural space with a wide angle. Taking my photos to the next level gave me the confidence to share my photos and collaborate with other artists to push ourselves to new limits. I love the architecture of cities like Chicago and pride myself in finding the places that are off the beaten path. My photos stand out because I always look for unique ways or angles to capture the city or a subject in my work.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Growing any social media audience can be a full time job or at least it felt like that for me. I would be on Instagram constantly scrolling, liking, posting, sharing, ect. I met some amazing people that way who were like minded and wanted to grow together as well. When posting, I tried to use hashtags and geotags to locations that people would recognize. I would also never leave my house without my camera because you never know when there might be an opportunity for a photo shoot. The best feature on my camera was the ability to WiFi photos to my phone where I can edit and post them on the go or even on the bus/train ride home in Chicago. I believe the amount of time I put into Instagram is how I was able to build my audience and that would be my advice for others as well – you’ve got to put in the time to see results.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing one of my works printed and hung is the best reward. Each photo I take has its own story, a journey filtered through my style. When someone likes it enough to own a copy, it really brings me great joy to be able to share that passion with others.
